loading lever actions

browning huh? nice! I would love to have one of the lite wieght one's with a striaght grip. but guide gun is more the direction I am headed right now.

either blunt tip bullets or the new flex tips by hornady, are the only way to go with tube fed lever guns.

Yea, its a Browning, a Pre 81.  Best gun I have ever owned.

I had a BLR 81' in .308 for 1 season. I didn't like it very much. Sold it and got a bolt action .308. I was like 12 them though. I would like to have it back now.

Their is a pretty good article in the latest (Nov/Dec) Petersen's Rifle Shooter magazine about crimping. Might be worth reading.

The basic message is that without a proper crimp, the rounds in the tubular magazine could hit the round in front of it with enough force from recoil to drive the bullet deeper into the case, which may cause high pressure issues when that round is fired.

.308 and it has become an extension of me when I am shooting.  Has accounted for 50 +/- deer in its lifetime so far.

Yeah stick with round nose or flex point bullets and crimp them. I think win just came out with a 30cal BT Im not sure if they have any larger one out yet.

I've loaded for the 30-30 and 32 special winchester tubular magazine for years. The 30-30 takes a .307, the 32 special takes a .321 flat or round point bullet, with a crimping chanelure. It's important to trim the brass all the same length and set the crimp die for each batch. To much crimp will swell the neck so the round won't completely chamber, not enough crimp the bullet will move farther into the case in the magazine from the recoil. The 300 savage with a rotary mag I load for is no different than any other ordinary round.
