Do me a favor next time you are out in the woods with this guy. Take a bottle of ketchup with you. When he sets his gun down and is not looking fire a round into the ground, fall over and blow that ketchup bottle all over yourself -Roll around in agony for a while, oOOOOHHH I"MMM SHOOOTTT!! DAM IT HURTS, AAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!. Then get up and laugh at his ass after he pisses himself.

I bet he never does that crap again.

I'd never hunt with anyone as careless as that. I'd have some choice words with them for certain and then be off.

Dude....  I'm a rookie to this whole thing, and I almost hit the deck here in my safe dry cubicle when I saw that photo.  The hunter ed course we took (that I could have grandfathered out of, but figured it was a great idea since I am as rookie to it as anyone born after the date) put the holy fear of all fears into us for muzzle control.

We were at a club's training day a couple years ago starting some pups with quartering drills, and sanding off the rough edges on a couple of our veteran dogs after a long off-season and one of the club members was extra eager to gun for us.  I thought I might have heard a "click" just after I sent my dog out after a planted pigeon, but wasn't sure enough of myself to make a fuss... until he CROSSED MY DOG WITH HIS 12g.  And yep, he had clicked off the safety when we started out.  I went absolutely fsking bat$hit nutso on him, leashed my dog, and got the hell out of the field. He wouldn't talk to me for almost a year... until he got similar treatment from a different club member when he "peppered" the parking lot at another training day.  And the 2nd person went much more nutso on his @ss than I had.

I figure that in theory, the police will go after someone who shoots me... but I am the only enforcement to go after someone for shooting my dog.  So I do.

He is no longer allowed to bring his gun to our training days.  This, in my opinion, is the measured and proper response to *censored* like that.  I adore my spouse, but repeated lack of muzzle control attention would end our hunting together days, which are without a doubt my favorite days in my entire life. (1)

My cousin would get maybe 1 or 2 stern warnings, and a 3rd time would be the last time I'd be anywhere with him/her with firearms in the same zipcode.

~ tracy, admittedly a rookie who was raised in an anti-gun, ambivalent-to-hunting family, so may have some over-cautious views... :twocents:

(1)  I also make sure that she knows that if she decides to murder me (and that would probably be justified :chuckle:)  my only request is that she really mean it, and not to get caught.  No sense in both of us having our lives ruined!  LOL

My 17 yr. old went thru hunters saftey when he was 14 and he knows better than that and he shoots a bow! I wouldn't go with that guy and I'd warn anybody else he asked to go. JMO.

Hope you show him these pics and explain the number 1 rule of gun safety!

Don't let idiots have weapons?

or my favorite

You can't call back a bullet.....until you learn that I won't call you back!

No tolerance for lack of muzzle control.

Why don't you just have him read this thread? With pics and all?

I'd take that gun away....kick his a$$...... and not hunt with him again. If you think that is too harsh then maybe look into how many and what kind of hunting accidents there are every year. Thats just me and my opinion.
Just one more day
