Anyone ever fish while hunting?
« on: November 04, 2009, 09:46:42 AM »
I live in the Spokane area and have never really brought a pole with me when I go duck hunting, I have also thought about bringing a shotgun with me and just go fishing somewhere....maybe long lake for some perch or something...does anyone else do this....and it never fails, while that ice-fishing geese always fly over in shooting range...hhhmmm maybe two for one would be a good thing...or would I just be doing both poorly? ... :dunno:....I have heard of some guys cold weather cat-fishing off to the side of there dekes too ... ???

I have done a few cast n blasts.  They can be a lot of fun.  Birds and fish.  A good combo.
Cut em!

I remember many days Duck hunting on the coast (Willapa Bay) with my dad and we would fish for sea-runs mid-day.  It was awesome, my pops caught the biggest sea-run I've ever seen in person on one of these trips and I got a banded Greenhead same day.

There is a local lake we used to go to and troll for trout, and cast for chums. When we saw ducks ahead we would kill the motor (Regulation against hunting from motorized vehicle applies) and row towards them until they flushed. We would get more greenheads than our buddies on the same lake sitting over dekes!

whats the rule on sneaking up on them using your trolling motor...I mean , your not going to be using it when you are shooting, and technically it wont be running...but you might be drifting in there direction...is that OK ....does the rule just apply to those idiots that do 45 through your dekes and shoot at them thinking they are birds or the guys that do the same thing on real ducks at first light..??? :dunno:

I think the law says technically " no forward movement from the motor" meaning even after you turn it off, if you are still drifting because of the motor they may be able to get you... use your discretion.

caught a trout and brought a bunch of ducks home once

It used to say ; until all forward progress DUE TO THE MOTOR HAS STOPPED. We would start rowing to cover our a$$, just in case.

I used to love caribou / grizzly hunting and fishing for big Dolly Varden. Nothing better. Hunt hard and then relax and fish...
