What do you think about single shot rifles for Yotes, Bobs, Ect.

I'd buy a single shot in a second if it meant I was waiting to afford something else and not being able to hunt.  Call a few dogs in with archery equipment or a shotgun, and a 22mag will seem like a dream.  Nothing wrong with a single shot, when calling, very few follow up shots are necessary.

I know they are expensive, but I shoot a Cooper single shot bolt action rifle in .204.  I keep rounds in my shirt pocket and have gotten doubles with it.  I have also killed yotes' way out there on the second shot.  I don't view the single shot part as a handi-cap at all.

I shoot a .223 NEF single shot with a synthetic stock and have taken more then a few doubles with it.

theres nothing wrong with shooting a single shot for predators(or anything else for that matter) i went from a .30-06 to a H&R ultra varmint (not the fluted one though) it worked just fine

My buddy shoots a 243 ruger no1, the gun has cost him 2 bucks since he's been huntin, not sure how long that has been but atleast 10 years i assume. Last year he shot at a buck 500yds plus and before he could get another shot off it was way out of range. This year he told me he's missed the biggest buck in his life that wasn't dead or on a wall 30+"s. he's not one to exagerate so i know he wasn't BS'n he claimed it would be top 3 in washington. He shot at it once missed and it was raining he tried to put another bullet in but it slipped out of his hands cuz of the rain. He's been pissed for 2 weeks now

That gun did not cost him those two bucks!!! Yer friend needs to leard how to shoot that there gun.

I also forgot to mention I am left handed..  L hand bolt guns are harder to come by and tend to be more $$$. I've tried shooting a Rh bolt but can't do it very quick. My rem 700 06 cost about 200 bucks more than if it was a RH gun..  For those of you in the getting close thread do you think a shotgun across the lap and a single shot would do the trick? Or do you think i should just man up and shoot I have? the diff in drop between a 22-250 and a 06 at 300yd is 5" and 400 is 10"  Accelerator rounds have about the same ballistics as a 22-250... can you reload a accelerator? if so some info?

Starting at about age 5, I learned to shoot/hunt with a single-shot .22.  I really feel that a single-shot teaches you a lot more because you have to discipline yourself to make that first shot count.  Took numerous doubles of jackrabbits/grouse with a $75.00 NEF 12 gauge.  I have many more guns of all action types, but that old NEF is still one of my favorites.  Discipline... Discipline... Discipline.

I have a few NEF and H&R single-shots in .223, .243, .25-06, .30-30, and .45-70... all great shooters.

That's what my nephew and cousin shoot. Very accurate and compact. I really enjoy shooting them.
