huckleberry WT winterkill

For those of you that have spent time in this GMU this year, what effects do you think last years winter had on the deer and the bucks.  I'm considering heading that way for the late whitetail but haven't been in that unit for a few years.  Primarily planning on being in the southern part of the unit on the lake roosevelt side if it makes a difference.  Thanks!

Ridge, I am not sure it had much of an impact.  My friends did a lot of hiking looking for sheds last spring and only came across a few dead deer. No more than normal years.  Thats not to say in other areas that we didnt cover the winterkill may have been worse.

I spend quite a bit of time in 121 and am aquainted with WDFW biologists who cover that area.  The effects of the last 2 winters have been significant but I think this year is going to be better on the late hunts than last year, though driving over the Addy-Cedonia Rd. on the second weekend of the early rifle hunt I saw very few deer at prime time in the late afternoon.

I have heard the biologist in the area say 70% winter kill from two years ago.  I completely believe it.

My family has property out of Addy and from what we haver seen the last 2 winters has really taken a toll on the deer numbers.........

You guys really believe 70% winter kill. That leaves nothing. I'm not so sure of that. these are tough animals. Rough winters is nothing new to them.

Outfitter told me he hasn't seen much of a difference from last year.

I hunt the huckleberry unit all of the time.I see lots of deer down in the private fields and don't see very many up in the hills.I think the last 2 winters have taken a toll on the deer numbers.
