I shoot the same bullet. 509er and Duck witnessed me send one rolling across the iceat close to 350 or so. Lots of wind too. Little luck involved.  ;)

Should be pretty good out to 300 if your a steady shot, have a drop chart and know your gun.

Looks like comparing the 32 grain in a .204 vs 40 grain in a 22-250 is nearly the same. Take that you 22-250 guys.  :chuckle: I like a 22-250 too, just trying to :stirthepot:

According to the charts teh 204 has better stats out to 500 yards than the 22-250. I was not fully aware of that. (less a little energy, not much).

Still 22-250, 3950 fp, 50 grain ballistic tip, still has more energy at 500 yds. After 500 yds how hits a yote anyway(.204 or 22-250) Come on how many yote are killed at 400yds plus if so luck has a lot to do with it. Get real. :chuckle:

I shoot 40 grain V-max out of my .204.  I had some initial problems with the 32 grain v-max on longer shots.  A few run-offs.....The 40 grainers put them down.   I have several kills over 400 yards.  Longest is 437.   I was a die-hard 22-250 guy until I bought my first .204 by accident.  I wanted a Cooper 22-250, but the gunshop had just sold their last one.  The did have a .204 and I wanted to leave with a rifle, so......I bought the .204.  Good choice!  I have since bought three more and all my buddies have switched from 22-250's and 220 swifts.

Best thing to do is just try a few diff rounds out. I know its spendy but worth it. 509er and Duckfvr like the 40 grain V-max out of their guns. My VTR likes the 32's.  :dunno:

We have enough brass now that I think some home brews will be in order this year. We'll keep you posted on those loads.

Big10 or Bull, what recipie do you have for reload for the .204?

Hey who let a 22-250 shooter post in this thread for .204 shooters?  :chuckle: Go out to 600 yrds and compare a 50 gr 22-50 and a .204 40 gr which is more comparable, the .204 has 5 in less drop, 200fps faster 1 lb more energy and 8 in less wind drift. Anyway a .243 has more energy than both :chuckle:

I haven't had to reload any 32 grainers yet. After a generous donation to my hunting fund I bought a bunch of Hornady factory loads that shoot very well.  :chuckle:

My rifle likes the 32 grain vmax too.  The 40 grain not as much.  The 35 grain bergers did great at a wide variety of ranges.  I did not like the 45 grain soft points, but I did not reload them.  I think if you pushed them near max pressures that they would perform better and open up faster.  I have a pile of brass that will get reloaded with 35 grain bergers eventually, but these past couple of seasons I have fired less than a box of shells, so the factory 32 grain is getting used up.

What scope you have on yours Hillbilly?  For now when I get it I think I'll just put my VX-III 4.5-14 that is on my .300 on it till I save enough for something else.

I have the same scope on mine Lowedog, with the Illuminated Reticle.  It is about perfect for a varmint scope.  Especially if you are going to shoot chucks or squirrels.

Mine has the B&C reticle.  I love it on my .300 but don't really want to spend another $800 to get another so I will just use that one for awhile.  Are you shooting the CZ as well?

I have had quite a few run off after shooting AT them with 32gr V max.  :chuckle:

All kidding aside, I had one run off after completely knocking him to the dirt. We figured that the bullet came apart on contact with hid/shoulder blade. The rest of our clan has had one or two run after a hit (likely bad hit). But not too many.

On a side note (for 22-250 guys getting ready to pounce) I have had them run a ways after being hit with 55 gran v max from my 22-250. Its bound to happen from time to time if you dont put it in the boiler room.

All in all we have had pretty good success, no shot up pelts either. No kitties run off after 32 grains!!

I've shot the 204 ever since it's introduction.  Many of kills over 400.  40gr v-max work well out of my ultralight.  If I wasn't concerned about hides, I wouldn't leave the 250 or swift at home. ;)

If your 204 does not like the 40 grain bullets, try the 39 grain Sierra Blitzking. Several people have found that their rifles will shoot the 39 BK when the 40s were not shooting well. They shoot very well out of my 2 Savage 204s and are effective on sage rats and prairie dogs.   :chuckle:  I think that the Berger bullets are a better choice for coyotes as they have better penetration, especially if it hits a shoulder.
May you have a target rich environment!
