Cuts in the back corner of the eye?
« on: November 09, 2009, 12:46:11 PM »
Seems like we are ending up with more and more capes that have cuts in the back corner of the eye. They were either caped by someone else or the tannery nicks them and maybe...just maybe we goof up and nick them :dunno:. We have tried many many different remedies to fix these. Just wondering if anyone has any sure fire tips for fixes on these. We used to try and sew them with a super fine thread, then we switched to using a acetone cleaner with super glue gel to ad-hear an extremely thin piece of sinew. I'm wondering if just using the hide paste to hold it in place and carpeting it? Any ideas?

I get a lot of these also especially on elk that outfitters cape out. What I do is keep it together with hide paste and keep a eye on it as its drying just like you do with the eyes. After its all dried then I use apoxy sculpt and smooth it out with my finger moist with water. After prepping the rest I air brush the color and no one can tell. I'm sure there is a lot of other ways but this works great for me and the customer can't tell it's even there and that's the most important.

After you tuck the eyes pin the nick closed make sure there is some hide paste under the skin. if you get any separation fill with ll game or epoxy sculpt before airbrushing
good luck
