Just finished my 1st Ecaller
« on: November 18, 2009, 12:22:33 AM »
well after reading a few threads and looking around. ive definitely been wanting to get into predator hunting. so for versatility sake i decided i would make a E-caller. after reading a few posts on here i jumped right on it. 2 evenings of work later i have this made. now all i have to do is upload more sounds to my old cell phone. And just incase my batteries die, i can hook it right up to my cell phone as well for back up. cant wait to get out and use it...

unfortunately i was too focused on it to take project build pics. used a radio shack amp and P/A speaker from a local autoparts store. im going to be using my old tmobile wing that is also a pda and has windows mobile pretty much a mini p/c so i will be able to work with sounds on windows media player.

the housing is made from a 7in piece of 3" abs pipe. one end is a 3" drain cap that the end unscrews from. the speaker side is a 3" to 4 in adapter with the inside grinded out to easily fit the p/a speaker in without any other modification. the handles were made from a 32in long piece of 1/4 pipe that i bent myself. i made a cardboard template with the shape a wanted and just pieces of metal to the right length and bent each with a hammer and vice. they are held in with some epoxy. this save me form buying $2 a piece handes without the shape i wanted. the rod only cost me $3 total and i already had the tools to work it.

a few things i messed up on were.... the handles are eventually gonna pop loose from the epoxy since i forgot to cut notches into the ends for the epoxy to anchor. so one is coming loose. once it pops out ill cut slits into the ends and put more epoxy. they should be fine after that. also i wanted it originally to be more angled upwards but after bending and mounting the handles it didnt turn out exactly like i planned but good enough. also the end cap requires way to many rotations. im going to use a slip cap next time.

i wish i took pics during the build but it didnt even occur till i finished it. it weighs in at just 3lbs.

I like your design.  I made one a while back but have not had time to use it with all the other seasons going on but should be able to get it out next week or the week after.  Still needs a camo paint job.

lol actually, after reading your thread a week and a half ago, its the reason i made mine. your thread was the source of my inspiration. thanks!

i too have yet to use it but i may just drag it with me late archery season while deer hunting depending on where i end up. my main focus is going to be using it in the summer for predator calling. mainly for bears and yotes.
