goose hunting without decoys
« on: November 18, 2009, 10:19:37 AM »
would i be wasteing my time hunting geese without decoys?  i've never hunted geese,  and am really tight with money, so can't buy decoys,  but i know several good spots around my area, and was thinking about going out there with just a call,   or should i just stay home?

Guess my post didn't work. Try black garbage bags. I used white ones when I first got into snowgoose hunting, they worked! :twocents:

Your and your friend (s) go to the dollar store and buys a dozen black balloons each, the really cheap ones. take a stake about 18in-24 in long and tie a string at the top. go into the hunting area place the stick in the ground blow up the balloon tie it to the stake in the ground so it won't touch the ground stubble etc.(ea stake might need to bee a little longer depending on area)  Costs a little each time you go out, but not as much for a dozen decoys... Save a little money and make /paint some silhouette to mix in... Stackem like cord wood :hunt2: :hunt2: :hunt2:

Cheep free chip board, plywood scraps etc use diluted black oil base with diesel eliminates the gloss and over ascent the white patches. No But have Friends mix em in with their decoys and add tons of movement into their spread. had a neighbor that swears by it and used only balloons!

This brings up a good point about 'budget' hunting. I've goose hunted w/o dek's before. Just depends on what your trying to do. If you know where there passing and there is ground cover you can hide and ambush them as they pass. I got a real nice honker on the early hunt this way. The other day I had about 1 hr. to hunt and decided to just walk out on a dike and lay low on one side. Scored 2 cacklers that way. It's not impossible but certainly if you're hunting fields, water or a combo, try one of the above suggestions. I may try the balloon thing myself. BTW, I had a friend who hunted snows by throwing white paper plates all over a field and poking a stick through them to hold em down. Did well 'I'm told'...
