Where is it legal to harvest an elk today?

  Just curious. Saw a pickup headed east on 505 from the Toledo Winlock exit.Had a small branch bull in the back whole.

Didnt realize anything was open.But cant find my regs to check them out.

I don't think there was anything open for elk today, at least not in SW Washington. Must have been a tribal member. Or I suppose it could be somebody who got a permit from the WDFW for elk doing damage to their property.

Also could have been someone who maybe shot a bull last week and stayed up in their camp for late buck.  I almost did that except the wife would have had my hide.  Letting the meat hang for a week or 10 days isn't uncommon.

Of course, it could have just been an idiot too.

Hard to say. AHE and special permit hunts are all over the map in terms of dates and locations.

I hope thats not the case.It was whole,with the hide on.

My guess is probably a poacher.  Suppose it could be a tribal member.
In other parts of the state there are 3 youth hunts and 9 master hunter damage hunts open today.

Could be someone hunting out of state, oregons less than an hour away and the second season is running this week.
