triple seven pellets

i shot my rifle when i first bought it with the 2 triple seven pellets and a musket cap. the pellets where 100 grains.with a 290 grain knight bullet. it shot pretty good. but i shot it on sunday with 2 triple seven pellets which was a 100 grains with the 295 grain powerbelts,precision dead center 340 grains bullets and a 310 pt gold scorpion. i was having hang fires with the pellets but it worked fine with the triple seven loose powder. but i could not hit even the paper but once. i have never had this problem with  this gun. i think these pellets are bad. any one have this problem with triple seven. they are 2 yrs old but the were still in the original plastic they came in. ive heard that i should try pyrodex pellets instead. i have some loose powder from pyrodex im going to try. im shooting a knight bighorn in 50 caliber in stainless with a thumbhole stock.

never heard of that, my cousin shoots them and likes them and i use to shoot pellets when i first startes years ago but last 5 years i have been shooting loose powder pyrodex rs, the tripple seven is a bit cleaner than the pyro, pellets must be bad is my guess

The pellets are best used with the 209 primer, which isn't legal here in WA.  Stick to loose powder and you'll rarely, if ever, have a hangfire with musket caps.  Wouldn't want to risk the hangfire with an animal at the end of the barrel.

had same problem 777 pellets arnt made for caps only 209 are bullets would tumble down range and hit target sideways look up our old post about tumbling bullets, loose is way to go

My guess is that 2 year old pellets absorbed some moisture some how... I shoot the same gun with no probs using the 777 loose powder.

I agree with the other guys, a friend using pellets switched this fall due to hangfires, we found that the loose powder ignites quicker.

loose is the way to go for me..pellets would worry me at all times.besides it more like muzzle loading

Triple seven pellets say right on the box 209 PRIMERS are to be used !!!

I use 130 grains of Pyrodex.... Never had a problem.... I musket cap her as well.... May be a dumb ?... But will 130 grains of 777 powder ignite all the way in an X-150 with 295 Power Belt??? Never tried it... I liked the 777 loose a lot more.... The pyrodex is just easier for me.... And like I said.... Never had a problem..

Just got back from the range and put 16 rounds through with 777 pellets and muskets.  only 2 hang fires and I fired 8 rounds between cleaning.  Just getting some trigger time as I'm trying to get rid of the last of my pellets and plan to go to 777 loose next year.  Sounds like the way to go.

musket caps will fire 777 pellets but wont burn all evenly which can cause your shots to walk up the paper or even hang fire or even not fire at all. pyrodex pellets is fine i wont risk it with 777 Pellets not when that bucks on the other end of the smokepole. if you want 777 shoot loose its great

I will always use loose powder from now on. I used pellets for a while as a matter on convenience but later changed to loose powder and have had more consistant performance, I've heard that the pellets have a shelf life of about 12-18 months.

I use 125gr of pyrodex select with dead center 245gr sabots LOVE IT
