Cheep Buckshot!!!
« on: November 25, 2009, 10:58:46 AM »
I bought a DO IT  slingshot mold over the internet and started making 0 buck shot... My father in law un-crimped cheep field loads and stacked the pellets in  and re crimped by hand... We have used them on Coyotes and have stacked em up... anyone else do this before? Kinda thought it was a little dangerous doing it all by hand, what do you think?   BTW the pellets are between #1 and #0 and you can fit 9 into a 2 3/4 shell... We used lead tire weights for mealting with a Lyman hot pot... :dunno:

I don't know what the weight of the 9 pellets your using compares to the 'cheap field loads' but I would bet the wad is not up to the job and the powder charge could cause a pressure spike if you're pushing alot more weight out the end.
I guess I don't really know but would be afraid to try it.

Sounds awful labor intensive.  At what point does it make sense to just buy some buckshot loads?

The lead buck shot equals about 7/8 oz-1oz same as trap shot weight. It's not really that labor intensive and at 30 cents a round  vs 1 buck plus a round it's a pretty big difference.. And yes we burn through the buck shot....

Why don't you just melt the lead you unload instead of using old tire weights? That would even save you more. I just can't understand why anybody would go through the trouble, it seems like a lot of work. You can buy pretty cheap buckshot all over the internet. Dunno but just seems like a huge PITA.  :dunno:
