Late elk in Bear River

Looks like my family and I are going to hunt unit 681 for late elk. I have never been there but last time I drove to Longbeach I past a a few gates on timber land. We are gonna start there. Can anyone give me any advice on this unit? We would really appreciate any help.

I heard that it can be real good or real bad! I was told to hunt along side the Hi-way...probably the gate you speak of....i was going to hunt it last year but the weather was all wrong. Thats why it should be good now because the weather is bad this year. Sorry wish I could be more help...keep me posted if you see any of those Big Game animals

Used to hunt that unit with a rifle have not hunted it with a bow. Its steep, thick but lots of elk. I hiked in to one of the roads you might be talking about two Augusts ago just to see how the area was since I hadn't hunted it in 5 years and was happy to see it looked like they hadn't opened the gates in that many years. The roads were grown over with alders. We hiked in a couple miles and let out a bugle, instant response 200 yards down in the canyon. Have good rain gear, good luck.

Like dlaw said have good quiet rain gear. There will be a lot of people there but that can be a good thing, keeps the elk moving. Any of the gates off of Parpalla Rd hold elk. Try Ellesworth Slough Rd, Dell Cr Rd. I will be down there my self for 4 days. Driving a blue 4 door f-150.
Good luck

Did they ruin it by opening any gates?

Yeah for us they did. I didnt think the gates would be open so I brought the mini van.
Not many walk in areas left for us. We got into some fresh sign but never saw any animals. We didnt have high expectations for never having been to the unit before but there are definitely animals in there . I really appreciate everyone giving us advice though.

If I remember correctly you have to drive down gravel roads off Parpalla before getting to the gates. They are not right on the road. I think, my
