6.5 Creedmoor
« on: December 01, 2009, 06:56:37 AM »
Does anyone here shoot this caliber?  It sounds like it was developed more towards long range target shooters, but I'm thinking it might be a good long range deer cartridge.

Or you could just get a 260 They are virtually identical. But your right it'd be a great caliber. I wouldn't buy it unless you reload though. There's really no ammo for it as of yet midway only has 3-4 choices, didn't see any in cabelas online. The 260 ammo is hard to find but can be had. It is an interesting load for sure but definately a handloaders choice at this time.

I do reload so thats not a problem.  I was thinking about maybe getting a .264 win mag but then started looking into other .264 calibers.  This one caught my eye cause it apparently has a mild recoil, good long range accuracy, is reloader friendly and Hornady now has a few offerings of ammo for hunting.  Oh yeah... Ruger is chambering it in some of their rifles also.  Thats great cause I grew up shooting a Ruger M77.

Natchezss.com sells Horandy A-Max loads (120 and 140 gr) for $23.37 per box for the Creedmoor.

I have an old carcano i want to shoot yotes with, but i have to order my ammo online usually.
TANNERITE needed for target practice on opening day of each hunting season.

I was just looking into this round recently and it sounds pretty good. Hornady loads for it and has more loads coming.

im really interested in this caliber too. the hawkeye in 6.5 creedmoor with the 26" tube sounds fun.

i read alot into this round and now for the life of me cant think why it was better then the 260...
but between the 2 rounds, i would pick the creedmoor. now if i could only think of those reasons  :bash:

Hornady also prints the load on every box of creedmoor ammo so that reloaders can duplicate match it.  I think theyre using H4350.  I guess thats what they mean by reloader friendly.

i think i've seen the 6.5 carcano shoots a non-standard .268 bullet(instead of .264), you may want to look into that.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

What's the benefit over the 260 Remington?
from the articles i have read apparently the benefit is that the case design allowes the heavy for caliber bullet to be seated without compressing the charge allowing a shorter oal with the same bullet.

I don't think that the Creedmoor needs to be better than the 260 to make it worth having. If I were looking for a medium capacity 6.5 round, I certainly wouldn't rule the Creedmoor out.
