whats a good coyote call for a rookie

Im going to start taking coyote hunting a little bit more seriously this winter.  im basically a rookie when it comes to calling dogs, so what would be a good call to start out with?  im looking for a mouth blown call simply because the electric calls are a bit out of my part-part-time college student budget.

any info will be greatly appreciated,

Both Bearmanric and Rainshadow-1 have some EXCELLENT mouth calls, I highly recommend either one.

Bearmanric makes some awesome calls I currently have one and plan on getting some more in the future.  You also have this option for e-callers.  I made this and it works really good.

Bearmanric and rainshadow make quality products...I have bought items from both, so they are great and I would recommend either of them.

In addition to their goodies, Primos makes a good instructional dvd with Randy Anderson...Calling All Coyotes The Truth series...good luck!

also a good rookie call is the priomse cat nip its not very loud but a sweet call none the less. if calling in heavy cover its great were the yotes aren't to far away and makes a great finisher call also. its like 10.00 or something like that. then pick up one of the members calls on here.

I have a power stash of different calls.  Over the years primos has been my goto calls, but when it comes to coyote callin The Verminators have produced "tweety"  which is my favorite reed call by far!  Others will do the job but this is my cofidence call! I can produce rabit squal and fawn distress very easily while controlling volume.


There are a couple different models.  I would start with a regular tweety.  There is a long range tweety as well that is a little more difficult to control.  The syco tweety makes excellent bird noises when you learn how to use it, cause it can be a little bitch.

If you are just starting out get yourself some primos "Callin' Coyotes" & a Verminator tape.  you can find em' in spokane at the Old Sportsmans Warehouse.  Its called somethin else now...

One of the best things you can do is practice with these calls a lot.  You may find that a different model works better for you.

More than the call a lot a guys talk about your setup, which out weighs your call in most situations.

Most of all keep the sun at you back and do not skyline yourself when you set up.  Third is your sent if you are hunting where there is not a lot of human activity.  If your are hunting for rural coyotes it does not matter.

practice at home and dial in your sounds.And please don't scream from your truck.Give the wildlife you disturbed on the way in to a set alittle time to settle down.then call.On the wet side in thick cover I like to start out low then get into it after a while.the verminator psycho, I like, double reed.But bearmanricks calls are my go to.Rainshadows calls I don't own yet,but get a knife from him.Today's weather is great for calling.

once again guys thanks for plethera of info.  got to tak my last final tomorrow at 10, picked up a cottontail distress call to use in the mean time while i wait for a pair of calls from bearmanric, hopefully ill see some good action with this recent deep freeze.
