Questions about trucks and slide in campers
« on: December 05, 2009, 04:25:12 PM »
1. Do the dimensions of the pick-up beds vary much?(I'm getting an 8 foot bed come hell or high water so the length is set in stone)

2. Can you buy any slide in and have it fit your truck? (not worried about matching the sliding window in camper with the one in the truck, more worried about width of wheel wells).

3. Can you pick one up and tie it down reasonably to get it home without installing all the camper tie downs? (will install good tie down after the fact if I can do this)

I'm asking all these question because we've passed on some good deals on slide ins because we don't have the truck yet. If any old slide in will fit the truck then we can get a nice used one before we get the truck. If not then we wait.

Any help welcomed.

#1:::well on the newer trucks they have taller sidewalls in the bed.
what year of truck are you thinking? and what year camper?

#2:: you can get it home fairly easy.

gotta go with an 8ft bed or the camper is too small.

let me know about the truck and camper.

Yes they go vary, my buddies camper will not in my truck. I have a 96 crew cab GMC he has a 1 ton ford. Need to measure the opening at the tailgate. I have a buddy that used to do rv repair, let me know if you need any help. Are you still local?

1) Yes
2) No
3) Be very careful you could get a big ticket unsecured load if not done Right

I bought TorK lift Tie downs from Six Robles they by far and away had the best price.  really easy to install took maybe a half hour not including locating my tools.
