I am trying to decide on my next hand gun. I want a .357 and like the idea of being able to swap the barrels. Does anyone have one or have an opinion on them? Thanks for the help guys.

I think they make a 45-70 that I have wanted for a few years. Good guns from what I have read.

Did not know they made a changeable Brl gun.

I have been looking at them on line, it seems like a really good design. I just dont have any first hand experiance with them.

I've had a dan wesson 357 for over 15 years. Very good gun and yes you can change barrel lengths (ie 2" 4" 6") not sure if you can change calibers, if that's what you are asking?

Yes great guns! My dad recently acquired two different Dan Wesson 357's. One is a 6" barrel with a shroud and the other is a 4" barrel. You can swap grips, and barrels and they both shoot really pretty well! If you're interested he's looking at possibly selling the 4" barreled one! I can put you into contact with him...

My cousin has a Dan Wesson 445. Awsome gun, very accurate and lots of knock down power!

I have never shot handguns well, but I believe its due to the sights personally... I have NEVER been able to use a handgun and apply the "aim small miss small" theory... It seems like every handgun I've shot has a sight that covers a paper plate at 20 yards. Why can't they put smaller sights on 'em? Seems like it'd be a LOT easier to shoot better groups...

Hell I can group my dads Rem 710 30-06 pump gun 1.5" at 100 yards with three shots open sights... but the sight covers the same amount of target at that distance that the Dan Wesson did at 20 yards... what gives???

I have one also, it's a 357 pistol pack. Like the one in the picture only in stainless steel. These are very well made guns and are very accurate. They never made a 45-70, but Magnum Research did. The Dan Wessons were used in silhouette competition and won most of the time. Their accuracy is attributed to the way the barrel is tensioned when it is put on the gun, providing consistant harmonics when shooting. Great guns.

Alot of people have this problem. Try a 6 o'clock hold basically put the top of the front sight at the bottom of where you want to hit. Its more of a phsycolgical factor than anything. Not sure what the aim small miss small theory is, but guessing its the ideology of sighting the gun in for a "fine" front sight low down in the groove of the rear. With a handgun you want the top of the front site even with the top of the rear, with equal space between. You also have to remember with a handgun you have a shorter sight radius. Try the 6 o'clock hold next time, I have had some success with shooters who describe the same issue with there shooting.

I have owned two Dan Wesson 44 mags with 8" and 10" barrels. I cureently own a Dan Wesson 357 Supermag with a 4" and 8" barrel. It is really the only wheel gun I have ever really appreciated. I have owned several others but never for very long. You got to be wary of the DW though. They went through some hard times and some poor quality. Read some of their history to see what factory to look out for. They used some very old tooling just to survive and it turned a lot of folks against them.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try when I get home! The "Aim small Miss small" theory is just somethin my Dad taught me... if you aim for a dime sized target vs an apple sized target at the same distance which is going to consistently yield better results? Also I like a really small front bead like a rifle sight that will allow me to "aim small".

I love my Dan Wessons top left 375 Supermag, top right the only 460 Supermag made serial #1, bottom left 445 Supermag, and bottom right 357 Supermag.

I had a 357 mag years ago with the interchangeable barrels. Shot good but they had a spacing problem at the time. They have now fix this I guess.

:)I do not care for Dan Wesson but the reason I wrote is, if you do not like the big Blade sight on your handgun replace it with a rifle bead and smaller notch rear sight. I have a friend with a Target Ruger 22 that did this it makes a nice shooter.
