Montana'09 Elk and Deer Hunt
« on: December 07, 2009, 03:34:10 AM »

Been a while since I posted.....
First I'd like to thank those who suggested some areas to check out this fall.
I initially thought I'd have 3 months to hunt, starting with the archery season.....Well, work got in the way and I had to make due.
I hunted 5 days during the archery season in some of the steepest, thickest, nastiest stuff I've ever been in....saw a big 350"+ bull. He took a drink, turned and walked into the shadows never to be seen again.
I made it back about the last week of October for about 5 days. Passed on a couple of bucks....stalked a big group of cows with a bugling bull in tow....never did get a look at him.
Finally made it back for the final 8 days in November.
I tried to catch up to a really heavy 6 point by post-holing through crotch deep snow and deadfalls up to about 9600'. Nearly dark and nearing the continental divide....I admitted defeat. Passed on a spike several miles away in the same mountain range.
One day I decided to check out some other property I had permission to hunt....the deer were everywhere........that I couldn't hunt.
I didn't fling any arrows or fire a shot but the time spent over there was well worth every minute. I know where I'm going with my bow next time!
All the pics were from my last trip over.
Sorry for the poor quality pics...point and shoot through a spotting scope......

Holy cow Jager!  Those are some stud whiteys!  Same with our Montana Hunt, lots of big whitetails on private river-bottom land that was posted...

Those whitey's were awesome to watch! Saw one that was close to 180" laying in the open. NO TRESPASSING!  :bash:  ! Couldn't get a decent pic of it.
I was probably closer to 60 or 70 miles from Alder when I saw those bucks.....Never did see a real big muley.....Thats still on my list, along with a really nice bull.  :'(

Pretty awesome to watch thats for sure.  I was thinking they were the same two I seen on Ted Turners ranch, but I suppose there quite a few that look a like out there.  Great pics.
