SpecialT...its pretty easy...just need a like what 30,000$?

Im not sure what the deer tag brings...but the elk tags are CRAZZZY

but I believe its like an all access pass to all areas and all seasons..i may be wrong

when ya hear GOV tag...think...jesus christ huge animal at the cost of a starter home   ;)

Not sure where 30K came from?   The deer tags sells for less than half that.  I think the more money the better.  It all goes to research of that species.

Apparently I'm the minority who doesn't have a problem with Gov. tags. . .  :dunno:

So long as the money goes somewhere and benefits something one animal is well worth the thousands of dollars it brings in in my opinion. . .

Also, if someone has the cash laying around to buy in on something like this the money certainly can't be that big of a chunk out of his or her pocket.  For 7k or whatever this one went for (basically the price of a nice guided hunt), he got to hunt the whole east side for a super long season.  That alone would be worth more than going on a 7k 5 day hunt and shooting a nice buck in my opinion. . .

Bottom line, it wasn't that expensive, at least not to him, and he shot a buck he was happy to take.  More power to him.

Not bashing the deer at all Wabone, but thanks for trying to start something.  It sounds like he had a nice hunt and he didn't shoot it in somebodies yard though.  I am reflecting on the quality of deer in Wa at the moment.  If you had that tag in your pocket, and you probably have more experience with hunters with that tag than anyone, and you had complete access to the deer in this entire state, would a 180 light your fire?  Have you noted the Governor tag bucks from Idaho, Colorado and Montana to name a few.  They are UNREAL!  This is just a dang nice buck.  There's a difference.  Much of it is a reflection on our deer, not the hunter.

and no Rob, didn't mean anything by it, that's why the smiley face, I knew you and maybe Mray were helping with our one member on here and thought you might be involved with this one as well, and thought that yours and Mrays opinion were about the same.  That was my connotation.

The governors tag gives you the opportunity to hunt and since trophy is in the eye of the beholder.  That means the hunter will define the tag every time.  I also know I will never shoot the biggest buck in the state but I will have the best hunt.  That is me however.  If someone wants to pay around "$7,500.00" just to hunt during the rut and shoot a 160" buck so be it.  Its his hunt, his money, thanks for the donation.  Maybe the guy that shot it has a 200" typical and wanted a non-typical?  Every hunter is different I am sure.  I know I don't need a guide and I work hard and scout every year and get what I get.  The most important part is it satisfied me.  :twocents:  Congrats to the hunter.

A-men Yelp, that is exactly right. I don't mean to convey any different message.

I know I will modify.
Eastside deer tag went for $7500 not $30,000

Somebody got a good deal on a moose tag in 1999... only $4500. Would cost more than that to go to Canada. And the $7500 for the mule deer this year was a bargain, in comparison to other years. Pretty fair price really, for being able to hunt anywhere in the state for a mule deer, at times when nobody else is hunting. Would be a fun hunt for sure. If I ever win the lottery I'll do it...

you could pay $5k to go somewhere and hunt mule deer for a week or you could pay $7k to hunt mule deer for 4 months. when you're dropping the big bucks to go hunting, whats another $2k for an additional 3.75 months of hunting.
honestly to me when folks are willing to spend a fairly large amount of money to go hunting places, a governors tag at $7k is a bargain.
i don't have that kind of money but some people do. i know people that shoot $20k shotguns and spend $5-7k to go fishing and release everything they catch.
the guys that spend that kind of money that goes to our wildlife should be thanked for their donation to our state's wildlife.
