Verminator split reed Tweety call. . .anybody used it?
« on: December 16, 2009, 12:56:19 PM »
I grabbed a new hand call today, just to have a different sound. . .I got the Verminator Tweety with the split reed.

Anybody used it? Any luck with it?

I blew on it a bit on the drive home from town and I think it sounds GREAT. . .good volume control and that split reed really gives the call some character!!! I can blow dead rabbit squalls super easy and finally my call sounds like what I hear from the E-callers and on TV/DVD shows! Plus it makes really good squeaks too. . .double duty!

I bought it because with a name like Tweety I thought it would be a bird in distress call, but it's not. . .

. . .I really want a good woodpecker in distress hand call. . .I have a Extreme Dimension Phantom e-caller, but the call selection isn't phenomenal (it's what I can afford) since I only have one card for it. . .I'll probably get the second card before the years out, but I don't like the bird in distress call. . .the rabbit is good, but I can't say that I care for the coyote howls that much either. . .the calls are very obviously looped and it's a short loop. . .may not be that obvious to the 'yotes, but I cringe a little when it sounds too much the same in too short a period of time.

Any suggestions for a good woodpecker distress call?

Most open reed calls will do bird distress.  Bearmanric has a bunch of videos where he does some bird sounds on his calls.

I'll check them out. . .probably just a technique I haven't heard of or tried before.

Appreciate the tip!

I have one, I think it's the long range tweety. Actually since I started fooling with rainshadows and bearmanric's calls the tweety is the only production call I like anymore. It's a great pup in distress call and it's also good for high pitch howling.

The yellow  Psycho Tweety is a good call, it's one of the one's that is usually on my lanyard. Don't use it all the time but have called in a fair number with it.  Surprising how far a coyote can hear it

Ricks, power tweeter works good as does the smallest "crit'r call" any open reed will work if you use your upper teeth to pinch the skinny end of the sound board.

Yep, I have the Phsyco Tweety and it works great.

As far a being a "production" call...yeah, I guess it is.  Last I heard, they are all still made in his shop and his basement.  His wife, kids, and a couple guys that work for him at his NAPA store make them all as far as I know.

I am going to start buying more calls from Bearmanric, and Rainshadow on here though.  I've got a couple from each, and they are awesome!  Rick and Steve make some awesome calls, and are both great guys to deal with.

I use the Psyco Tweety for bird sounds.  Bite toward the tip and get your lip off the reed.  I have called them close to a mile off with it.  The reed is pretty thin, so you will need to replace it every so often.  As the reed gets worn a bit it really sounds horrible.

Pschyo Tweety here also, not as long range as the reg-lar Tweety.
