iron clad mallards
«

went out jump shooting this afternoon. i was walking a ditch when about 25 yards in front of me 2 mallards jumped up. i pulled on the drake which was flying directly away from me and pulled the trigger. i hit him hard, he almost did a flip and a ton of feathers come out, he kept beating his wings though so i decided to hit him again to make sure. this time he folded and started falling straight towrds the ground
dead duck right... wrong, about 3 feet before he hit the ground he decided to open his wings agan and fly off into the sun set
all i could do is stand there with my mouth open in awe at the amount of punishment that bird had taken while still being able to fly away.
o-well ducks never sease to amaze me and I hope they never stop
on the bright side i took 6 shots today and hit the bird 4 of those shots so it looks like im starting to get my confidence back

Maybe some ice froze to his body and was serving as body armor.

They wear surplus body armor didn't you know that? Why do you think they made lead illegal?

Don't you know that ducks are unstoppable unless you shoot them with black cloud?

i switched to 3 1/2's in 2 shot last year after having MULTIPLE northern mallards pull similar stunts... its a sickening feelin. those things are built like tanks. granted a full on 'away' shot is low percentage but still, they're tough sob's. from thanksgiving on thats what im shootin.

I shot a mallard drake it dropped and then pulled on a second mallard drake and dropped it. I looked down to see the first one. It had hit the ice, bounced and then started flying again. Fired another shot at it, and added more to it's tail as it was flying straight away. Both legs were hanging and it flew out of sight. No good.

I shot one swinging left to right and away at about 65 yards on Sunday. Dropped it with 1 shot. It chilled in the water until the boat got to it. It looks dead. It then took off and flew into the sagebrush where my dog promptly retrieved it
