Rubbed my bolt!
« on: December 21, 2009, 06:10:34 PM »

I'm sure I already know the answer but thought i would ask anyway.....
I somehow managed to rub the bluing off the bolt handle on my pre-FN Winchester Featherweight M70.
I had it cased in my truck but the case was unzipped.
I'm bummed because I've only got about 2 boxes through the 300wsm!

It's a small spot about 3/8" round. It almost looks like glare on the handle, but it's killing me.

I want to do what's right, which probably means re-bluing (having it re-blued) the entire bolt.
Are their other options? I've seen other bluing "fixes" but I haven't researched anything since the accident.
I have zero gunsmithing experience so I'd appreciate some opinions on what to do.

Congtats, you now have a working gun. Take an elmarko pen to the spot. Every time I worry about one mark, another shows up. Just the way it is with my guns...they get used...

i don't even like my rifles until they've got at least one or two scratches or rubs on them. my advice go drag it through some brush chasing an animal and get some more scratches rubs and dings. no body likes a safe queen
