Lab/pointer crosses

Hey guys, my dad wanted me to post and ask where you are getting your labs crossed with pointers at. if you have any info just post here as he reads these threads.

labs have a recessive pointing gene and breeders are bringing out that gene in breeding and breeding labs that point...is that what you're talking about?
there's a place in ellensburg...it might be cooke canyon, that is a  pointing lab breeder.

Check out Tiger Mountain Pointing Labs.  I don't have personal experience with them, yet.  A friend of a friend got one and it has turned out to be a pretty sweet lab.  Not a perfect upland hunter but does good enough for a duck hunter that wants to shoot upland birds every once in a while

I have heard mixed reviews about Tiger Mtn.  Also take a look at http://www.tri-labkennels.com/ the owner is a member but rarely posts, better off to email him with questions.  As Jackelope stated they are Labs, not crosses, just trained to point.  I have hunted over them and they are great.  Labs are tough dogs and will go places other dogs won't.

You can also try morgansredpointinglabs.com, they have done some breeding with Tri-lab kennels and both places have pretty good pointing lab lines. My next lab will be from the Morgans. Good luck.

i found my pup in the little nickle. she is across between german shorthair and lab. got her for 200 and her dads dad is a field trial champion, and she is a pointing fool

Sshhh, don't tell my pup that.  He might think it's ok to stop busting brush.  I could throw a golf ball as far as I could into the deepest nastiest blackberry bramble and I would bet $5 he'll come back with it.  I don't think it's a breed thing, it's more of a "breeding" thing.  If hunting dog buyers do their research there is a dog out there that is bred to do what they want, in multiple breeds.  I've been to a few hunting dog seminars and it's cool to see different breeds excel at finding, retrieving, pointing, etc.  For instance I saw the biggest running, choke bored nose, retrieving nut, sit in your lap wire hair.  I have heard lots of things and would of never believed it if I hadn't seen it.  Cool Stuff.  If it's a hunting dog and it hunt's, I like it.

Same here... don't tell my GWP Sofie that. Her and her brother will bust brush like no other. They also love to retrieve. I can throw a dummy in a pond or lake until my arm gets tired and I QUIT (over and hour straight), but they won't. They do sleep good after that though.

Good luck on getting a pup. If I were you I would look into rescue dogs. There are all types of rescues out there for German Wirehairs, German Shorthairs, and Labs to just name a few. Just google or yahoo them. I have even seen a few crosses on their sites.

One of the nice things about the dog specific rescues, especially the german dogs, is they will check to see if the dog might like to hunt or is fearful of loud sounds. They are very thorough in what they check for including being around other dogs, small kids, cats, etc. They also make you fill out a bunch of forms as they want to know to whom and exactly where the dog is going and if you are going to be a good family. Another thing they want is to make a promise that you will keep the dog for it's lifetime. If you can't keep them for some reason or other they want the dog back as they do not want it to end up in a bad home or kill shelter. The cost (adoption fee) is reasonable and around $100 to $120. Most of these rescues make very little money if any at all. Check it out.

I picked up a lab, german shorthair pointer cross in Sequim two weeks ago for $200. He is a great pup. In two weeks he sits, stays, and comes. I found them in an online classified ad for Olympic Peninsula, I am not sure which one though. If you need the number just let me know, I am sure I have it stashed somewhere around here.

My dad has a lab from Tiger mtn. she is hell tough on roosters, if i get a dog it'll be from Tiger.
