Antler care?
« on: December 26, 2009, 05:59:27 PM »
So... Some of my elk & deer antlers are getting pretty old. Any need to treat them with oil or anything to preserve them for years to come? I'd hate for them to lose their color & strength.

Thanks, Guy

You can lean them real well to get rid of the dust and dirt.  Than after words you can use Old English furniture polish on them.  Just try and keep it out of the bark lodged in the burs.  If they are dark horns use the dark Old English.

Michelle, after using the Old English polish you can sit and admire you work with a 40 of Olde English 800!

If the color has faded a little I hit them with some stain to the desired color and then seal them with a clear, matte spray.  It seals in the color, repels dust, and critters and makes it a breeze to clean, just hit it with one of those dust bunny things on a stick.  After it is dried it won't stink up the place like some other things will.
