Installing Peep Tube???
« on: December 30, 2009, 09:31:44 PM »
I shot when I was younger (a LOT younger) but it's probably been 15 years since I shot a bow.

A friend basically gave me one of his extra bows indefinitely and said I could change whatever I wanted on it as long as I didn't throw away whatever I took off. . .it came set-up for finger shooting and hadn't been used in a while so a few things need updated and replaced. One of the things that need replaced is the peep sight tube (long gone) and the sight itself (banged up, bent pins. . .I got a fiber optic 4-pin from Trophy Ridge that was reasonably priced today). . .I know where it goes on the peep sight and I know it's supposed to go to the string that attaches to the upper limb, but does height or angle make a difference?

I tried an internet search and didn't really find any good info on how to do this right.

I took the bow in today and had a tune-up done and had the draw weight dropped because it was set at 75#'s. . .way to heavy for me. . .they dropped it down to 65# and said that was as low as they would suggest backing the limb screws out. . .much better to pull back now.

Thanks.

Hi Joe, The peep tube can go anywhere just above the site window of the peep itself. The only thing it does is straighten out the string so you can see threw the peep. You might need another person to help get the peep lined up right for your eye.  Thats a good site you bought , you'll like it. Good luck!

Thanks for the help Aneoakleaf.

Good to hear it's a good sight. . .I was perusing the aisle and the price of some of the sights is RIDICULOUS!!! $200 for a sight when you can get sight that look exactly the same for 1/10 of the price.

The sight pins are fiberoptic and the sight included a sight illuminator and a sight level (none of which were around last time I shot). . .got it for $35. . .money well spent in my opinion. . .I could replace it every season for the next 5 years and still be ahead of some of the expensive sights!!!

I forgot to ask. . .what difference will it make on the mounting holes that I choose to use when mounting the sight?

Two sets of mounting holes for my bow. . .one set will mount it closer to the bow and one set will mount it farther away. . .any advantage in using one set or the other???

Thanks again!

That was a good price.. And you're sure right about the pricing :dunno:

On the mounting you will want to use the holes closest to the window. It gets tec...the rest, pins and arrow will need to line up when you have the site mounted and adjusted right. so that's part of getting the bow TUNED It may take a bow shop to help you with that. There's lots of pro shops that can help and it's well worth the money.

Thanks again. . .I just installed it loosely using the holes that have it out farther so I'll swap that real quick.

I just slipped the peep tube on and tied it to the string. . .adjusted it once so that it starts to see tension at about 3/4 draw. . .I figure that's not too much tension on the peep tube but enough to make sure that it lens the peep up to my eye.

Do I just tie the peep to the cable with a regular knot???
