Antler catcher?

Anyone ever try using an antler catcher?  I have seen plans on line for a hanging bucket and wanted to see if anyone has used one or any of the other styles.  There are a few local deer and elk on some private property I hunt on and I was thinking of trying one of these out and seeing if I could get lucky.

I have a buddy in Wisconsin that buils them, he gets 50-60 sheds a year, he has a pretty neat design he builds out of wood

I would be interested in building something also to get local bucks..

You could put a huge pile of apples on the ground, then dig a deep & wide mote ditch around it so when the bucks jump across the mote to eat apples, they jar their antlers off

here is how it works round here...4 t posts spaced in a 4' square. fence it in with single strand or cow panel leaving a space on the bottom for feeding. fill it with chow. the goal is to get the antlers to snag on the fence, but not trap the critter. if you have elk or moose in your area......they will flat destroy the antler trap.....unless you wait till march.

For those that asked I will try and get some pictures sent out here to me on how they look.

The basic concept is he builds a box, that has the bottom and all four sides on it. He makes it long enough and hangs it low enough that the deer have to put their head down into the box to feed. When the buck comes into feed he cannot reach the bottom of the box and therefore commences to push harder to get his head in there and this in returns makes the antlers come off.

He has been doing this for about 5 years and like said he gets around 50-60 sheds a year. One good thing about it is he 99% of the time has the matching sets.

Another way would be to sink a T-post and run two panels up to it forming a 60 degree angle. Place the bait/feed inside the angle. Bucks will come into it and the panels will knock their antlers off. I have never tried any of this. Are there any laws against them in Washington? Seems like if you don't know what you are doing, you could really do some harm to the animals. Don't set too early.

I have talked to him he is trying to get some pics out here to me, not to good with a computer so might be awhile.

This is basically what he does.

Stake is a 2x4 cut at a 45 so the box hangs at an angle and not straight up and down, so the feed does not get wet. When he sits the stake in he sets it at 30 inches high so the deer can somewhat eat naturally.

The box is nothing but a 12x12x12.

He takes and cuts an opening out of the top of the box that is 9x9, leaving him a 3 inch side all the way around it. Does can put their heads straight in and eat, but the bucks cant, they then start pushing on the box to get their heads in there, and this results when they are ready to drop their antlers they drop off right at the base of the box.
