Need Gun Help!!!!
« on: January 15, 2010, 03:46:10 PM »
I have been looking at the links that Gutpile posted about the Knight Black Powder Rifles.  Price looks good on both.  Im am going to buy one of them.  Which one is better.  I have never hunted black powder before and I usually hunt the east side of the state for mulies.  But where I got there a tons of people and I want to get away from combat hunting.  Any though on the two guns, one is a Wolverine and the other in a Bighorn.  Only a few dollars between the two.  Thought I asks before I drop the coin as I am only buying one.

For all intents and purposes they are the same gun.  That's a direct message I got from Knight last year.  The Bighorn generally comes with both ignition systems, 209 and percussion/musket, which makes it Washington legal.  The Wolverine usually comes with the 209 system, so you have to buy a #90023 breech plug and a nipple for either percussion or musket cap.  The barrel length on the Bighorn is 26 inches.....Wolverine 22 inches, although I have seen some used older bighorns with shorter barrels.

Both come in different combinations...i.e., camo, black stock, stainless vs. blued barrel, regular stock vs. thumbhole.  Personally I like both although the Wolverine feels more balanced in my hand due to the more proportional weight distribution.  Some feel longer barrel is more accurate.  Not sure as most folks shoot at just over and generally under 100 yards when using in the field.  I hunted for years with a TC Renegade which I preferred over the longer TC Hawken.  When sighting in at the range up to 200 yards with the shorter barreled Renegade, there was no lack of accuracy.

Think it just comes down to personal preference.

If one is stainless and the other blued...grab the stainless one...I have 2 stainless bighorns, one conventional stocked and set up for WA Muzzleloader season rules wiht Musket caps and a peep sight and a thumbhole stocked one set up to use in Modern Season in Firearms Restricted Areas...but has scope and 209 ignition....which IS legal in MODERN season.

Buy the Bighorn if you can find it. Both the ones I posted were blue/black with 22" barrels so they are identical. But like wacenturion said the bighorn comes with the conversion plugs and nipples so you wont have to buy anything else.

Those adds were probably expired by now but just get on gun broker and do a search for Knight Wolverine and bighorn and see what comes up. Good luck.

Just checked gunbroker. 6 days left on the Bighorn. $135.00 plus shipping. Didn't look at the add # but you should find it on a search.

THANKS for the replies!!!  I'm going to get the Bighorn.  Looks like a great deal.  I have been looking for awhile and I have seen a few at the local pawn for around 175 to 200.

Call the guy whos add is on gunbroker rather than bidding. He had 4 or 5 when I called him and can ship the same day, he'll just pull another from the back and ship it out. If you bid you run the risk of losing the item to a higher bidder. I was actually gonna buy 3 of them and sell them here on the site but decided it'd be to much of a headache.

If he's out of stock you may have to bid but just wanted to give you the heads up.
