Has Anyone Taken the Brisky Bow Making Class?
« on: January 07, 2010, 12:47:14 PM »
Saw it on Craig's list  just wanted to know if anyone has taken it? I was kinda thinking about it.. its like $225 including materials for a Vine maple bow.... I'm a compound hunter but kinda thinking I'd like to try retro... Nothing more retro than making one yourself! any thoughts? Curt brisky is out of Ferndale...

I heard he makes a good bow. Never seen one in person. That sounds fairly inexpensive. I think it's probably a good deal. How many days?

I am not a bow hunter at all.. I met him at a show once. Very personable. Traditional bows. His work appears to be top notch from what I saw and from what I've heard from other people that know his stuff better than I.

Iv'e got a couple of those old vine mable bows that I'd like to refurbish some day. His class would probably teach me a lot. I'll keep it in mind.

Ferndale is a little north of Bellingham.

Curt is a good man and builds a good selfbow.
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood.
