Thinking of taking the dog to Cooke Canyon for a few times in February and March for some training.
Anyone interested in joining me can pm me. Looking to split costs as it is cheaper with 2 or more people. Would cost around $75 I think for 4 birds and you usually run into hold overs too. I usually get the pheasant hens. Firearms safety utmost importance.
I have a membership so do not have to worry and can bring guests. It's a fun time watching the dog chase birds and Cooke Canyon runs a good clean and safe operation. Can bring your fly rod and hit the Yak after hunting too if interested

I really like Cooke Canyon. Of course that is where my dog is from so I'm partial of course. Also a member and I have a friend that also likes to share hunts there as we have done several shared hunts to keep the cost down.
So I would be up for sharing a hunt if I can bring my son and my dog of course. Saftey also with me is huge so if you don't mind a worry wart and always double checking safteys on, etc. Also prefer a blue sky policy over the dogs! My 9 yo son does hunt, but I only let him shoot on perfect set ups and never walking around with a shell in the chamber of course. He also knows if no sky behind the bird we don't shoot.
Note though on the hens vs roosters. I have shot hens there and I much prefer roosters. Roosters run faster and fly harder. The hens do run but they don't run as fast and they don't bust up as strong as a rooster does!
Here is my 9 yo Max with his first rooster at Cooke Canyon

Penhuntsbirds. You cannot be too safe. Agree with you.If the shot is not safe pass it up.
Nice pic.
Anyone interested just pm me and can arrange for some dates. Not opposed to roosters. hens just cheaper.

Depending on timing maybe we could get a few folks out and do a little training. I too was thinking about getting my pup out one or two more times.

Yep.He was one of Dougs trainers(Scott) pick of the litter.
He is solid on point and has a great level head (Good Dog)
Look at the pointing Lab section of thier website and Ruger was Mine also.

Cool, my dog is from Scott too! She was breed at Upland Dogs and then Scott bought her for his son, his son then was deployed and could not keep her any longer! If you know the dogs at the club my dog is from Callie and is sister to Jasper. My friend just got the last lab pup that Doug and Alice had a month ago.
