Remington 700 CDL Opinion

I found a Remington 700 CDL SF in 7mm/08 for about 7 bills, new in box and was thinking of picking it up, anybody have one and if so what do you think of it.
The price seems ok, a little less then what i have found them for when i can find one. I know the 7mm/08 round so that im fine on, just not a real Remington guy (i own 2 others, 1 a .22 and the other a .6mm) but never a 700 and curious to what people that have owned/shot them think?
I will probably be cutting the stock down for a young person/lady also.
For the guys that dont know it is a Stainless fluted barrel and a wood stock.

 i also like the 7mm-08 and just got another. also the cdl is a great rifle for sure. will shoot good and you will be happy with it for sure. do it pull the trigger.

I have been kind of snobby about rifles lately, not too many factory offerings make me giddy. I think that there is a cdl in my future though. mine will be a whelen

Love the CDL. Not sure of the price, but you cannot go wrong with a beautiful Rem in CDL.

I'm a 700 fan, I have a safe full of them. I would hate to cut a nice stock like the CDL's have.

I think the CDLs are beautiful, though I've never owned a Remington and am a controlled round feed fan.  That said, I'm thinking hard about their new CDL in 264 Win Mag.

I have one and love it. Last year I bought a Remmy 700 CDL LE Stainless Fluted. It's the Limited run they do every year in a chosen Claiber. 08 was the 260, 09 was the .257 Bob. Not sure what it is this year.

Anywho It's sure a pretty thing. I did have a heck of a time finding the right load. Bet I served up 20 different loads and it just wouldn't shoot. Settled on a 125 grn partition that did OK. During deer season I did get my deer with it but it was a long shot and I made a poor hit.  Then I took it to WY for antelope and while sighting it in it just wouldn't shoot a decent group. Probably 5-6 inches at 100 yards. I was getting pretty pissed at this point. Decided to pull the scope and put another one on. Problem solved. She's a shooter. I just got a bad scope.

Sweet rifle, Gutpile. I'd almost be afraid of taking it hunting, but I still would! So what scope were you having problems with and what do you have on it now?

NIKON!!!! A 4.5X14 Buckmaster, the silver one in the pic. I temporarily put on a another 4.5X14 Nikon my Swede was wearing just to check it out and it shot great. Sub MOA. Not sure what scope I'll put on it permanently. Seriously considering a leupy but they are just so expensive and up till this point Nikon, Burris, and Bushnell Elites have served me well. I just don't know hat I'm gonna put on it. That will be my last Nikon though. That put a sour taste in my mouth. Perfect example of why you should always bring a back up gun when you go hunting. You just never know.

It is a dandy rifle and I don't want to beat the heck out of it so I bought a SS/Syn Model 7 in 260 for nasty weather/hard hunts.

They both shoot the same load equally well so that makes things real easy.

Those Remington CDL SS rifles are very very nice. If you are in the market for a new rifle, I dont think you could go wrong! Buy it if you like it!

  I would find a used stock or after market, cutting the original will deplete your value.  A fellow did this and I picked it up for $475 do to the stock.  I kept the cut-down original and purchased a  synthetic at a gun show, had a gunsmith friend marry them and she'll shoot as good as my custom 300 RUM, the 700 is a 300 WSM.

I see wood take offs from BDL's onece in a while for around $40.
I just looked in the closet and all I have right now are a couple long action stocks.

The one i am contemplating is 7mm-08 and is new but the dealer i know has had it for a while, so it is at least a year old, for some reason it is a redheaded step child and has been overlooked by other people, im still on the fence. Might be a good deal on this gun, but really is a remmy worth 7 bills, i have alot of guns that i paid less for and probably shoot just as well? As far as cutting the stock i dont see where this gun is so special that its out of reason, they dont seem do go up in value as other guns might, but hey you knows in 20 years.. By the time i add a lupey to it with mounts and sling im in it 1100, could i not get the same accuracy and a complete setup for half that in something else??

Well there's a difference between the Limited Edition CDL and the CDL. The Limited has the fancy floor plate like the one I posted. these are special run, one caliber per year. The CDL though is a full line of several calibers and they are still making all of the majo chamberings they just don't have the fancy floor plate. Same rifle, different engraving. Just like Model 700 ADL and BDL. I say go for it. It's a dandy rifle. the 7mm-08 has always interested me. Maybe someday.

Could you get the same accuracy? Sure. Tikka T3, Weatherby Vanguard, Savage, maybe even a Ruger 77 but not sure exactly what they cost. It's all what you want. I bought the LE because of the 260 chambering not so much because of the rifle. 7mm-08's are everywhere.

As far as cutting the stock, well I wouldn't on an expensive rifle for a youth but to custom fit me I may. Never have though.

Thanks gutpile, no it is not the LE, no special engraving but im sure that wont effect accuracy , as per my sign in im impartial to brownings and not sure if i should drop the same coin that i could for a comparable a-bolt.. But hey variety is the spice of life, i have weatherbys that were not cheap, dont think they are any more accurate than my brownings but they go up in value.

I LOVE brownings but they're almost too nice. I have several BPS's. I was looking at a rifle just recently when I bought my Tikka T3 light .243. Wanted a really light coyote rifle but figured I'd spend half as much so went with the Tikka instead. I'll tell you what. That Tikka is a sweet little rifle. Light too!!!!!

no way to sad to see you do that get the tikka do it do it  they are great i will pick another one up a little later when i get some more green after harvest. i am thinking of selling a few guns i don't have use for. and picking up another t3 light in 7mm-08 or somthing like that i have fell in love with the 7mm-08 bought 2 one in my weatherby cfp and another in my new r-25 i just got is 7mm-08 as well drives tacks if i get to it i will post pics of the killer groups i got with the same loads i am shooting in the cfp.

Nice gun, good caliber.  Does it have the new x-mark trigger?  That's seem like a pretty nice feature.  If you're going through the trouble of cutting down maybe a model 7 would be better

Not sure if it has the x-mark, i will check and as far as a model 7, it only has a 20bbl in 7mm-08 and blued.
The CDL SF is 24bbl and stainless/fluted barrel..
That is the problem when looking for a small stature person (in this case a female) the truely fine guns are not made for them so if she wants the CDL SF then i will have to modify it, not get her what they want to make but what she wants.
And for the balance police that might pipe up, she will never, ever shoot at any living thing offhand, only from a rest, sticks or bipod.
I have been looking for an A-Bolt compact which is a very fine gun but have not found a deal in 7mm-08 yet.
The weatherby youth is also a good choice, but she does not like the black syn stock.
Not really much else out there in youth that looks decent and is a shooter in my opinion, yeah there are the savages and the stevens (the grey stocks rank right up there with the black syns for her).
If it was for a kid i they would get what i wanted for them but in this case it is a bit different.

7mm-08 is a pretty efficient round that uses a lil faster burning powder.  The performance difference will not be as great when you go down in barrel length with it as with other cals.  But, no question on the blued aspect of the Mdl 7... only option there.
