I know last year there was a proposal for a speical elk hunt for turnbull wildlife area. Just curious if any of you guys know if there going to have a special hunt there this year and how many tags there going to give out?

I doubt they'll do it. The tree huggers had a fit last year but maybe. I can't remember for the life of me how many tags they wanted to give.

I talked to catfish about it, he said it was close last year, but too much red tape between the state and feds.......so it is still a big fat maybe.........or not

my impression was that they would wait until the next 3 year planning cycle due to the red tape.

Turnbull is just south of Cheney Wa. Typically a waterfowl area, but lots of elk destroying the habitat. I think they would love to thin them out. Just need a politically correct way to do it.

It sounded like to me that it would be on this year as well. Can't wait to find out, I would expect very limited number of bull permits, but probably some generous cow permits.

I talked with a guy that works out there this summer and he said that last year when the were having the concealed weapon on federal lands lifted it caused too much controversy to even push for the elk tags. He said if they do get them through it would be for youth, disabled, and senior hunts.
I did see a coyote out this morning on Turnbull and he just stayed mousing 100 yds from the main rd and didn't care that I stopped to look at him.
Oh well, at least I know there is one left on this side of the state.

High country is right, if you look at the new proposals on the wdfw web site you will see all the new special elk tags this year. I wish they would have a hanford bull tag!

I wouldnt fee comfortable having a hanford radioactive rack in my house.. No chance id eat one either.
Hanford is the most polluted place on earth...
