« on: February 03, 2010, 09:56:31 PM »
I'm thinking of pick'n up some new decoys while they're on sale. what's your favorite waterfowl decoy brand? ducks & geese? anyone try out the GHG Pro-Grade series?

I am sure I will get hammered but, I like the GHG ducks, a lot. I have two dozen or so of the pro grades, and thy are flat out sexy. I sprayed them all with 1311, which helps a lot. As far as geese, I like the Dakota's great decoy for the money. Dakota's hold up very well. I am also looking to add some of the new DSD's. Soon as they start producing the more durable ones in around June.

G&H mallards and DSD geese.  If you are patient you should be able to find some good used DSDs for a reasonable price this summer.

DSD for geese.  Then for ducks I have been using GHG and replacing them at the end of each season.  I also picked up 2 dozen of the Cabela's Real Image Decoys.  Those look and do very well on ducks.

G & H are good decoys as well.  I have about 12 dozen of the ducks and another 10 dozen of the G & H goose shells.  Those never made it out of the garage this season.

I have also been using some of the FA duck decoys and they seem to be holding up well.  Their paint scheme seems a little dark but they still work.

for whatever reason I have always thought the older flambeaus that I pick up from time to time at garage sales and stuff are some of the best deeks.

The feeder GHG pro snow geese are crap. the plastic is too thin.

the hotbuys I think are actually one of the best deals for the money, but I bought mine for about $2 ea, they're $50/doz now at most places.

My ghg pro active snows are better quality than the feeders.

i have a ton of these flambeau pins. I like the plastic. it's thick/hard, but kind of flexible which is probably good for the pins. I have a whole big bag of them rigged for long line.

this is the best how to i've found: http://www.nodakoutdoors.com/northwind-decoys.php

but I also decoyed snows in on some silohuettes I made. I used $7 sheets of styrofoam from Lowes (4'x8') and cut it out in the shape of geese, with sticks shoved up their butts ($.84 dowels cut in half, so $.42 per snow goose). I was able to make 25 out of one 4x8. I did it just to see if I could the night before a hunt. Corregated plastic would be better.

for the price, I picked up a $7 tupperware tub to store them in too so they wouldn't get destroyed. foam won't last forever... i was surprised I got a full hunt out of them.
