Didnt get drawn for South East MT (With a landowner Preference)!
« on: November 07, 2009, 10:47:25 PM »
I grew up on our family ranch in SE MT near Colstrip.  My Grandpa has 30,000 plus acres and my uncles have many more.  I have shot lots of nice deer when I was a resident and this was the first year I had money to try for an out of state tag.  My grandpa gave me a land owner preference and everything but I still didnt draw the tag, WTF.  I thought with a landowner tag the draw was pretty much guaranteed.

Yeah that was my thought too, but I called the MDFW and had them walk me through the application process.  If there was a problem in my app it was because of false info on the MDFW end, which would really piss me off.

I have a buddy on this site that puts in for MT landowner pref tags each year. In there party of four they have found over the last 4-5 years that you will only draw 1 of in three years on average. They used to draw every year but has not been the case lately. They were lucky and three of them drew and are there now.

Land owner sponsored deer tags were drawn at about 71% last year. There are 2000 tags available and everone must go through the draw process.

MT is very discriminate about the apps being filled out perfectly. If you forget to check your eye color or anything it is considered incomplete. Make sure your application is complete before sending in. Online works best whenever possible so that you don't make mistakes. :twocents:

huntncoug....MT has a new program for former residents who want to "come home" and hunt with family members. I believe there will be 500 tags set aside for this program.  I didn't look at the details because my family no longer owns the place where I grew up...but I have permission to hunt there when I get drawn.   You can fing the details on the MT game website.
It never changes, but it is always different.
