« on: February 12, 2010, 02:12:49 PM »
Don't know how many have seen this already..

I found this on the WDFW website..It shows permits already divided into the special pools...Go to page 85-105

http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/2010/wsr_10-04-125.pdf

a definite increase in bull permits... :)

am printing right now so I can look at them.  (I can't seem to retain anything I read off a screen-unless it has pictures-which is why I love this site.. :chuckle:)

Correct Bob this is a proposal.I changed title for those that might be misled..It looks like they have the basic format in regards to the proposed drawing pools and when it is pushed through the commission and public comment by first of April its ready to print..Permit levels may change depending on hunting reports, and process.  But they published it to view.

Yes.  There are some other posts on this topic that exceed 30 pages.

The more of us that comment, the better the chances this can be deferred until it is better thought out.

Have you read the document I posted?  I just found it on the web.  It was posted on Feb 3, 2010 it looks like. I didn't see it in the other threads.

I looked thru these.  I coudn't find any mention of them screwing with the draw odds by seperating bucks and bulls from cows and does (which is what most of the other threads were talking about.  Maybe that issue is dead, or maybe it just doesn't get published in the hunting regs.  I don't know :dunno:

From what I could see (and I admit, I only looked at the stuff that I put in for), looks like a few more elk tags, a few less late hunt mule deer tags and the other stuff mostly stayed the same( moose, etc..).
I don't have a PhD, so I didn't dig into the cougar stuff yet.

It's been posted a few times on here already. It got posted on the WDFW website last Friday. It does show all the proposed new categories. Starts out with the Quality permits, then Bull/Buck, then Antlerless, Youth, Senior, Disabled, 2nd Deer tag permits, and Master Hunter permits.Whether draw odds will be "screwed" is debatable. Some permits will definitely get more applicants. Others maybe not. Guys with a lot of points will probably have a good chance of drawing a permit under this new system.

Guys with alot of points had a better shot at drawing a permit with the old system!

WAC 232-28-291 Special hunting season permits
Purpose of the proposal and its anticipated effects, including any changes in existing rules:
The purpose is to modify the permit application rules to allow permit application in drawing by category
rather than by species.

Reasons supporting proposal:
Consistency with initiative to provide greater permit application opportunities for hunters and expand
funding for hunter access programs.

Does this mean it is leagal (or may be) to hunt witha crosss bow durring Riffle season?
 :dunno:

Crossbows are lawful under modern firearm seasons and not under archery seasons.

(4) Rules pertaining to crossbows:
(a) It is unlawful to hunt big game animals with a crossbow
with a draw weight less than 125 pounds, a limb width less than 24
inches, a draw length less than 14 inches, and a trigger safety
that does not work properly.
(b) It is unlawful to hunt big game animals with any arrow or
bolt measuring less than 16 inches in length and weighing less than
350 grains.
(c) It is unlawful to hunt game animals or game birds with a
crossbow that weighs more than 15 pounds.

Only in firearm restricted units.  It was just confusing that they were legal during modern firearms season in these units but the rules for them were under archery.
