Guess the score on this Masher.
« on: February 17, 2010, 06:40:13 PM »
This bull is on an elk farm in Oregon between Sisters and Redmond. The owners sells the antlers and makes a healthy living doing such.

He told the score on this big boy so take your best guess.

 :yeah:

Not with those brows he's not 440, gross, net...whatever.  He might bust 400 with those ridiculous G5s and extras, but I dont think he'll go anywhere near 440.
Ditto that he's a young bull too.  Wonder what he'll grow next year...

I hear what you all are saying and yes I am just relaying what I was told. I do tend to try and give people the benefit of the doubt when I talk with them and I am usually pretty good at sniffing out BS. These people were very polite and friendly. He let me drive up into his property to take photo's and we talked about the diferences in body size between Roosevelt's and Rocky's. He was simply to the point about what he was telling me. I did get the Impression that he was really into big antlered bulls. Obviously the bigger the antlers the more velvet he gets to strip the more money he gets to put in his pocket. It was not just that though. He was enthusiastic about his prised big boys. He had two that he was very proud of, this big typical and the big non typical. I suppose the only way to know for sure is to tranquilise the bull and tape him out. :chuckle:

Here are a few more bulls he had that were still carrying there racks.

Some impressive bulls there.  Looks like he's got a gene in his herd from huge backs and comparitively small fronts.  I said "comparitively" too.  Anytime you are talking about bulls that go 350" to 400" and you use the word "small", you have to say "comparitively" :chuckle:

Is it the length of the tines that make the main beam seem short?  :dunno: I never seen anything close to that, nor do I know much about scoring game, but it just seems short to be over 400" I saw one at a show once that was 417 and the bull pictured is no where near what I remember. But I agree I would not pass on him...
Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me

Might be an optical illusion because of the mass. The main beams don't look that short to me, especially with that loooong whale-tail.

They don't look all that short to me either but the fact that he is a 7x8 and has good mass do give the appearance of a compact frame - But only at first glance - like you said pathfinder look at the length of those whale-tails. Still no way I see him going over 400 by more than a couple inches (gross) probably net around 380-385

Hey guys sorry for the confusion. The two prised bulls were the suposed 440 bull and a nontypical he has that goes 540. I have no idea what the other bulls I posted would score. Your guesses are probably pretty close.

440 does seem a bit big but who knows for sure i still stick with my 390-400 there is a bull on ebay that is bigger than him and he is over 395 and would dwarf that bull. then there is one like 393 and looks allot like that bull.

my math came up with 429. there's no way that this bull will gross under 400", no way...

the brows aren't long but nothing's real short either. the 4 and 5 are great and there's extras.

Just for comparison sake here are a couple of bulls that do go over 400" the first is 427 and the second is 412.

terrible comparison, great long arm though.

this bull appears to have short fronts.... they're really not that short and they're all about the same length.
his 4th's are awesome and his 5th's, well you hardly ever see 5th's that good. throw in the fact that he  has g6's and also a long extra. all of those points make his beams look short when in reality they're outstanding. he also has atleast average "big bull" mass.

he's well over 400".
