CVA Elk horn true glow rods?
« on: March 02, 2010, 08:00:04 PM »
Well I decided to not get a traditions and got the CVA Elkhorn.  I got a great price on it, but the front sight is missing the true glow rod thing.  Do I have to get a new sight, or can I get a replacement rod to glue it the hole.  And where can I get it at. I have sent an email to CVA to see if they will send one to me.  The gun is never fired, brand new, and did not come with the rod thingie.  Thanks for any info.

Go to TRU-GLO sights and just order a new front site its much easier,or go to an Archery shop they sell the rods in differant dia. they'll need your front site to measure the inside dia. tho.

kimsmoker,

I also have an elkhorn and mine was missing the breech plug wrench. I called customer service and they sent one out to me right away. They are very nice to work with. This way there will be no cost to you for their mistake.

Smokey; good call.  I had already emailed them and they asked for my name and address so I am assuming they are sending me one.  Thanks guys.  I hope to sight it in soon.  Any recomendations for this gun.  Do you like it?

TrueGlow sights are guaranteed for life.  Call CVA and you will have a new set in less than 5 days via the united states postal service at no cost to you.  Mine shipped in 4 days no questions asked.  D

Kimsmoker,

I have other muzzleloaders and have shot and hunted with them for years and have found that this elkhorn is my favorite hunting gun. I put a Williams peep site on it, and after breaking in the bore and experimenting with  different loads and bullets, I can get a 2" grouping at 100 yds if I do my job right. It is so nice and light to carry in the woods compared to my Hawkin that at the end of the day I'm not all worn out. I find that the 240 gr XTP and green crush rib sabots in front of 95 gr of 2f BP is what mine likes, along with the 300 gr XTP and black crush rib sabot. Every gun is different though, so have fun trying different loads until you find the most accurate one. Be sure to post how your range sessions go!

I did have a traditions tracker that liked 130gr pyro pellets, I was going to try 100, 130, 150 grains and I think I wanna use try a little lighter bullet.  I was shooting 348 gr and think I might drop to just under 290 ish or so. I have heard some good things about the barnes.  I will let yall know how it goes.  I was wondering how high are you guys at 100 yards.  I was thinking 2"-3"  shoud be good, but I am not sure.

Got my sight in the mail today; time to go play with loads.  You said something about breaking in the barrel?  cant wait to sling some lead.
