G Loomis STFR 1601-SK, Anyone Own One?
« on: March 12, 2010, 10:08:03 AM »
I have my xbox 360 up for sale/trade on CL and a guy offered me this float rod in trade. I don't necessarily need it, but tryin to figure out if anyone has one and could give me some feedback on it. I know they're $400 new but i found one that sold for $250 on another site. Just tryin to get an idea what to offer him as for trade/plus some cash offer, etc.

Does your Xbox have extras (controllers, games, etc...)?  Depending how interested you are in the fly rod sounds like a decent trade.  Oh, I have a similar rod and love it.

Fly rod? It's a spinning rod from my understanding. For float fishing. I don't really float fish much, but mostly because i'm not setup to do it yet. Yeah my xbox has a ton of extras. I'm into it like $500 bucks, so I was hoping to free up some cash. The guy says he's fished it 3 times but it's too long for a drift boat. DUH!  :bash: I might go for it if i can get him to throw me $100 on top of the rod. We'll see though. i can always keep the rod around and sell it to someone who needs/wants it.

I'd pass on the float rod. You don't need a Loomis IMX to fish floats. You're basically watching a float go under. You could use a 13' 2x4 and have all the sensitivity you need for float fishing.

Rick you sound like my buddy Joe. He says the same thing about float fishing  :chuckle: The argument is that you lose less energy in the hook set just the same as if you're drifting I suppose. I know IMX rods are more sensitive, but I also have read that they transfer the energy better to the line. Blah blah blah. The only way i'd go for it was if the deal was right. I was thinkin like $250 for the rod and he gives me cash to make up the difference. We'll see though. Some guy asked me if i wanted aquariums with fish in them. I replied and said not unless they are edible.

if you're worried about losing energy in the hookset, jerk harder! ;)

any light, long rod is going to not put a whole lot of stress on the line, so best to use small, razor sharp hooks.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

No worries here. I'm just saying what i've read. I have decided against it since i can't find someone who wants to buy it if i get it. I was looking to turn a profit, or at least hook someone up with a good deal who really wanted it.
