Those who can do. Those who can't complain.

Good stuff and excellent target practice for the kids. Even a Red Ryder will knock them off the limb.

It's hard to take pictures of birds and animals in thick cover like this. The Camera is getting confused and focusing on the foreground brush. There are sticks in front of the two birds that the camera is focusing on. Might have to go manual focus for these types of shots... I try and get my shots up on a branch with no background "noise" behind the bird for 10 feet or so. Sometimes I have to pre-focus on an area I know the bird will go. In the end, shooting tweeties is just frustrating for me. I lured this scrub jay in with food and he kept going back to this bush between meals. I was able to shoot him there. I think I was using a F2.8 lens... Not sure if F5.6 or higher would have blurred the background enough to make the shot work. I'm going to do a test soon when I get some free time on the interplay between background blur and aperture. It's funny that we all love the shots of big game animals and such...yet I have sold this photo more than almost any big mammal photo. Crazy how many bird lovers and magazines are out there.

Birds are just in more venues that pay. Half the big game mags are all freebies I think. Great bluebird shot .
