777 crud ring?
« on: February 06, 2008, 01:38:04 PM »
Ive seen alot of post about a crud ring caused by using T7. Anyone have any problems from this, and if so how bad was it? Im thinking of trying the T7 loose but if there are alot of problems I ll  just stay pryodex.

Thanks, Sage

I don't know what you are referring to "crud ring" but I'll tell you something about T7, I used that stuff in my TC Hawken 54, same charge I used with pyrodex and broke the stock in half, after the smoke cleared I was holding the pistol grip and butt in one hand and the rest in the other !!

I sent it to TC and they replaced it for free and told me never to use that stuff again in that gun.

Check out what the manufacturer recommends for your gun before you load it, Just a word of caution !!

What is a "crud ring" is that the ring around your mouth after you eat a chocolate popsicle ??   :chuckle:  :chuckle:

I use loose Triple 7 and have heard of the crud ring too, but never really had a problem with it. But I do swab my bore out between shots.

I'm assuming your talking about the crud on the breach plug. Personally I changed from Pyrodex to triple 7 about 3-4 yrs ago & wouldn't go back. When I go shooting I always do 3 shot groups & then clean the gun. The crud comes off very easy with water, rag & a small brush. It hasn't been a issue with me as long as I stay on top of it. :hunter:

One of my hunting partners gets a stainless steel cleaner from his work. That stuff works like magic for cleaning my white. I learned the hard way that it will strip the bluing off a blued gun. I cleans the crud ring or whatever off easily.

the ring you are referring too is a deposit that can be left by hot primers and 777. i use rem. kleanbore primers to help eliminate this problem. myself and 3 friends all have t/c that had a problem seating second shots.we tried all t.c recomenndations without success. t/c lapped the barrels and we no longer have seating problems. it seems this was an inherent problem they knew aboutw/ their shockwaves.
