Above average numbers and above average size - lots of 4lb + largemouth, tons of rainbows and a few huge Brookies.

My grandparents used to have a summer place at Rainbow Beach on North Twin.  I've spent many many summers there.  The lakes aren't real big depending on what you're used to but it's absolutely beautiful there.  I caught a 3 1/2 lb rainbow over by the "wagon wheel" with my grandfather when I was 6.  We were still fishing early in the morning with light gear but I recall most people would troll for them with leaded line.  I have nothing but the best of memories from Twin.

i think saying there is lots of bass 4 lbs and bigger is misleading.  There are lots of bass, and they are in an upswing the last few years in size.  I wouldnt go there thinking that every other fish is going to be a pig. But there is some very big bass in there so be prepared. That time of year practice catch and release please on the spawning females.  Its not necessarily practiced by the locals. But you will have fun.  What time in May?? The trout fishing will be very productive that time of year for both rainbows and brookies. They have been tryin a new dissolved oxygen system in N. Twin to improve summer survival of the trout in the hot summer months.  So there could be some very nice healthy fish.  Used to have a log house on S. Twin for several years.  Been going up there for about 18 years now.

We used to go to Rainbow Beach when I was a kid. We would rent a cabin for the week. It was great. I remember swimming, getting a leech stuck on my leg, hearing loons every morning, catching and keeping a turtle for the week, campfires on the beach, seeing my first (some other kid) flaming marshmallow land on someone, catching minnows with peanut butter bread, and lots and lots of fishing. When I was there it was mostly a rainbow fishery and can remember how mad everyone was because the bass were going to hurt the trout fishing. Good times, makes me want to go back.

Our family has owned a cabin there as far back as I can remember. You use to be able to say that 4lb+ fish were plentiful. Those lakes use to be my favorite. We use to spend at least 5-6 weekend up there. That is until the shad got out of control. They have been trying to get it under control. The The big fish are getting huge off of the shad but they have over invaded. The lake is coming back the past few years. We have caught a few over 8lbs out of there, lots 5-6lbs.

I think your timing will be right if you want to catch brookies. They are awesome fighters in that lake and good size. Find a place where water is running into the lake. Throw and retreive an 11g black and gold floater. You will have fun.

Bass fishing will not be so good in May. It is the most fun when the tulies break through and the fish are in shallower water. One of the best top water lakes I have ever fished. In may go find the rock point in the north west corner of the north lake. Fish a sinko/diver/texas rigged salamander/jigs(chartruse Kalin 3"  ;)) in 20 feet of water. You will catch some good ones.

Dont know what the regs are like this year but dont be afraid to keep a few limits of the 9-12" fish. That is what those lakes need. There are too many little fish. Them little buggers make for the best fish fry anyway. Thow the big ones back.

Have fun!!! Let us know how you do.
