First Coyote for my son and he gets 2.
« on: March 29, 2010, 10:15:26 AM »
Well Saturday took my son out coyote hunting. Maybe 100 yards from truck we come out of woods to a clearing. See a coyote 200 yards up the line. Had my son get in position as coyote went into some thick bushes. Couple minutes later before I even called he comes back out in open. Trotting across the line and I woof at him. Totally ignores me so I woof really long and loud. He stops broadside and my boy shoots. So he's down and I start ki ying on a call and about 5 minutes later his girlfriend comes into clearing. So I woof at her and nothing. So I did a long siren howl and she stops and he shoots. Long story short was a good day for us. Paced the shots and the male was 176 and the female was 165 yards. Male was a very big old one and the female about 1/2 his size and very small.

Westside out from Rainier. Shot with a 204 Ruger singleshot handi rifle with 32gr Vmax. Pretty darn accurate gun not to mention cheap. He can put 5 shots in an inch or so at 200 yards. I dont tell him but he shoots better than I do...

Congrats to your boy and you as well, looks like it was a great day.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

We own 2 handi rifles and a partner shotgun. Really like them all. My daughter is ordering the 22.250 bull barrel so she can hunt with us this summer during college break. I only paid 170.00 for the 204 Ruger at Sportsmans Warehouse when they had a sale. It has been worth it for sure.

Congrats to your son.

Young eyes and steady nerves with great instruction from Dad is a sure recipe for a good shooter.  My kid always amazed me when he was little.  He still shoots great at 30 yrs old now.

Congratulations not only on the successful hunt, but for expanding your daughter's interest in hunting as well.

GunsAmerica has one with thumbhole stock 24" 22-250 bull barrel for 319.00. I bought a laminated thumbhole stock from Boyds and we are putting it on this weekend and camo painting the gun and scope up. I really like the feel of the thumbhole stock.
