Did I make a good deal?????
« on: March 29, 2010, 10:44:09 AM »
so I saw that waterfowl loads were 5 dollars off on Kent and Remington brands as well as hevi-shot....but they were totally out of BB and BBB so I picked up a bunch of Remington 3 in #4 @ 1550 fps for 8 dollars a box and a bunch of Rem. 2 3/4 # 2 & 4 at 1375 fps for 7 bucks a box and all 4 boxes of Kent  2 3/4 #  4 @ 1550 for 8 bucks a box.... spent more money than I probably should have, but I thought they were a pretty good deal and now I have around 24 boxes for the upcoming waterfowl season...so I don't have to worry about buying ammo at the last minute...

Sounds like a deal to me. I won't worry about the BB or BBB unless you plan on hunting some honkers at the same time. :twocents:

be carefull with the steel 4's in 2 3/4". they'd be good for early season local ducks close in over decoys, id be hesitant to use em on much other than that.

Yeah I was going to say the 4's are a little small but they'll be good for up close shots. Maybe use them for your first shot, and 2's for #2 and #3.

yeah they also cripple just as many, especially the 2 3/4" shells cause people don't understand or take the time to learn about energy or patterning. steel shot IS NOT LEAD. 4's are great, just not in low end 2 3/4" loads. stupid steel only laws.

4's going 1550 fps will kill ducks dead if they are at a reasonable distance. But I agree I like 2's better.

yeah, everything you guys said is what was going through my mind as I was staring at the shells...at 1550 I am not too worried about the 4s for good decoying ducks... and yeah, I usually do follow up with a bigger load.... I haven't had too many problems with crippling ducks, if I didn't have 2  labs that would definitely put a damper on things... I have a spot that is great for smaller ducks like buffleheads, teal, and so forth so I think I will probably use the smaller loads for them little guys... :twocents:   but i am like most of the rest of you I prefer 2s and BB...

i picked up a deal last year on shells at the Moseslake wal-mart, i was just wondering around and came across federal 3'' #2 for my 20 ga. that were marked for $5 a box, soooo i bought all they had, i think i paid $80 and got like 400 rounds. now any time I'm at wal-mart i have to check there ammo, i have gotten some other good deals on some 9mm but that's about it.
gun control means use two hands
