One of my bird hunting partners had one. He was very well mannered, calm, and took to training very well. He use to play and swim with our sons in the pool. If I wasn't so hung up on Britts, it would probably be my dog of choice.

it is a little calmer breed than most of the upland bird dogs. i think they will be a fine dog. but all dogs take work the more time you put into them the better they are.

Leave the "German" off the breed name; it's Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. The breed is said to have originated in the Neatherlands:

I like the breed; although I've never owned one. The few quality puppy ads I've seen have been EXPENSIVE.

My partner runs a couple of griffon, really nice dogs.  I have a GWP and it's working just fine for me.

not sure if you are looking at a griff or a gwp, I have a drahthaar, which is for all practical purposes a pure from german lineage gwp. I can say they need something to do, but mine is a great pet and an great hunter. does it all.......water, upland....heck she killed a coyote in walla walla. I would buy one if you like to use your dog all year. f you hunt them a few times and then they are yard ornaments the rest of the year....you will be pissed at the stuff they need to do to stay busy.
