We spent three days in the teanaway area and not a lot of gobbling.  They would gobble on the roost and most would go silent as soon as they left the roost,  Covered a lot of ground and managed to run into three toms with three or more hens each but no shots.  Gonna try to go back over in a couple of weeks.  Good luck if you go.

I have spent 4 days hunting the Teanaway, Liberty, and Taneum. I have seen one jake and that was today but it was just to small and I could not take it. I have yet to hear anything.

Direct quote from my roommate who hunted there last weekend: "Calling in 206ers is nearly as entertaining as calling in turkeys."   :chuckle:
He called in two different sets of guys that came toward him yelping, then got on their gobble shaker when he stopped calling. He said their gobbles sounded like feeding mallards. WOW.

The ladies went for a walk on private property Saturday morning over in the Roslyn area.

Saw a Jeep parked along the (private road). Along came a guy in a ghillie suit. Said he'd been working on calling in that turkey down by those two trees for an hour or more.

Ladies could only see a stump down where he was talking about and that was the way they came by to get over to his location.

He asked if it was private property and they told him it was. Asked if he'd be in trouble and they told him only if he got caught    As they returned back past the turkey stump he drove by and embarrassingly said, guess it wasn't a turkey...............

Not sure what his area code was but he sure fell into the not at all a turkey hunter category. My wife just thought it was pretty humorous.

We were in that area as well this weekend.  I had a similar experience to LongTats.  We found a ridge that had birds making noise almost all day.  More on Saturday than Sunday, but we heard gobbles periodically throughout the day from multiple birds.  We couldnt get them to commit either though.

And as usual with the birds being henned up and not commiting alot of those bungling hunters won't come back. Teanaway usually thins out after the opener...and I agree with those that ask the question" did you ask is they were Wetsiders? Don;t be stereotyping now ;)  I'm heading over there Thursday to try my luck.

The wind has blown constantly for the last two or three days after raining all day Tuesday. Still not a whole lot of gobbling.

foot in mouth...actually going over there this weekend instead of goin after easterns. buddys work is sending him to eburg tonight so figured what the hell lets meet up n try to find some turkeys. sat-sun.

Any suggestions on where to camp? don't need hook ups or anything. just semi flat piece of ground near the general area where public access n turkeys coincide. Don't need someones "x" spot for the turkeys. I'm satisfied with wandering around aimlessly in the woods for a couple days, would be just like hunting easterns anyhow  :chuckle:

how bout 'Wish Poosh Campground'?

You could try staying in Taneum creek.  There are several campgrounds in there, it is starting to get busy on the weekends though.

Lets just say we found the turkeys on Saturday, but we're rookies n blew two good opportunities. Lot of fun though, seen a bunch of elk n deer too. The persistent wind gusts helped and hurt. Forced the birds into concentrated pockets on the east facing slopes, good for us since it was unfamiliar ground. The overhead sound was really loud though, couldn't get much out. Called as loud as we could, walk 100yds, rinse repeat.

Went downhill after that. We'd located the birds about 3 miles in and 1500ft up in elevation from our camp. So we figured we'd move camp n get closer for Sunday. Problem is that required going up really high before we could get back down lower....lets just say we spent the night in the truck, dug till 1am, tried everything, was using my hatchet to try and break through the ice layer but both axles were pinned. 8 mile round trip hike yesterday to get help. Icing on the cake was the tom that crossed the road in front of me and stood on the hill 40yrds away, I was only armed with a water bottle  :bash: :bash: :bash: back for more in a few weeks with the hope that we get to hunt both days this time  :chuckle:
