Got pics, but bummed out.
« on: May 08, 2010, 09:38:21 AM »
5-8 Trail cam check.

I have to say that I am a bit bummed out. After last weeks photos of a big boy, I was hoping for more of the same when I checked again. And while I did get one three shot burst of a bear, what I probably missed is what bums me out.

When I walked in this morning I jumped something within 50 yards of the cameras. It sounded like a deer, but I was hoping for a glimpse of a bear. I only heard it once and I never did see any thing so I was hoping for some smoking hot photos. I was not too concerned at the lack of sign and I did find one fresh pile as I circled cam #1.

I was hopeful now, as the pile was in front of the camera. As I checked it I noticed that there were 30+ pics. But there were only 3 images of the bear. The rest were all false triggers due to temps and grass movement. It is fair to say I was a bit bummed.

I am pretty sure this is not the big one from last week. I don’t see any scars on his face.

Like I posted here http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,49113.0.html, last week I had one cam with errors (#2) and one got tipped over (#3). This week the #2 was still working, but tipped over with no pics. This is twice that a bear has walked one of these two trails past this cam and I have not gotten a pic. If you look at the pic, the red/yellow outlined overlay is where the cam had been.

As I walk over to cam #3 I realize that I probably had some great shots as I found a nice pile of crap only 5 feet from the camera. But no such luck! The batteries were dead and there was not a single pic on the trailcam. What a let down.

From cam to poo.

From poo to cam.

Daing that kinda sucks.  From the looks of you recent bear pic's that looks like a pretty good size bear too.

To me it looks like yer set up is wrong. The cam needs to point down. It is pointing up. Try another tree or put a rock or sticks behind the top to aim it level or a little down.

Mine? No, that cam is angling down, but not as steep as the ground. The laser is aimed waist high at 15 ft.

The one with the red/yellow outline is not the actual cam. I photoshopped it to show where it the cam should have been.

The problems are horrible battery life and the bear coming from behind.
