Double to end the season
« on: May 11, 2010, 10:02:41 AM »
Dad and Justin doubled to end their tough season. In essence, they were set up on one bird that was gobbling. After sitting for a long time, a hen with the gobbler started clucking and cutting. After she started that, 4 or 5 gobblers sounded off right around them. They were there the whole time, just silent. They saw 3 of the gobblers, and after keeping the hen going, one stepped into view for Dad and he shot it. The birds didn't seem to care too much, so Justin repositioned, and after calling and watching one of the other brids strut for a long time, he presented a shot and Justin took it. So our season is complete now, 3 guys and 6 longbeards called in and shot. Time to springer fish now.

Individual pictures. Not a true double, but it was the same birds and right in the same spot basically, just a short time apart.

Al, I have always said that if I want an eastern I'll go to Missouri. In this state I like to hunt gobbling turkeys, regardless of subspecie, so I tend to only hunt Merriams. They are the most accessible to me. The Washington slam has never interested me much. And eastern hunting on the westside sounds barely more profitable than hunting sasquatches. Maybe someday though.

Man you guys sure do know how to get-er-done. You know most outdoors guys are really good at a few things and mediocre at others, I.E Good at deer hunting and mediocre at turkey hunting or fishing or such. Your dad seems to be an all around outdoor *censored*. He's great at catching steelies & springer's, calling elk & turkey, Killing Deer, Elk, birds, rabbits,And he even finds a few sheds here and there. I must say you and your brother had a good teacher. congrats.
