apples? mineral licks or salt licks? ect...... ? just looking for advice.

COB (corn, oats, barley) with molasses will attract them all. Any feed store will have it. By using grain you will attract deer and rodents which will in turn attract cougar and bobcats. Add a mineral block and you will bring in the moose as well.

OK....so i totally agree on COB w/molasses...and a small block...

BUT.....Some cobs smell better and attract better than others....more the sweeter plesant smell the better it will attract. I actually have tried several different types of cob and there are some that taste pleasant and some that taste like poop...

So make sure that your not using the nasty tasting stuff. You might also want to find a local outfitter and see what type of cob they use. Typically most outiftters are putting out tons of feed to find there next years victims on the off season..... Theyll know what brand is best. Most cob will cost you 10-13 bucks a 50LBS bag...ill typically poor half at a time on a new sight...not to over do it...just pour it in a big pile...no need to stir it out and about...And the COB doesnt mold like the deer pellets and other stuff will also...and if you live in a wet climate the pellets will absorb moisture and ruin quickly...but pellets do work also... i think they use a apple scent of some kind to to add as an attractant..

The corn as recommended i think works, and is naturally sweet, and you can get some with apple flavoring also and i think its cheeper...But from what i have heard it is alot of filler, and not very beneficial to deer at all. And loading up a deer with alot of filler to me is not the best of ideas so if you go corm, i recommend a small amout and working your way up...

A good apple scented salt block will work well also...regular white salt blocks work, but the scented ones i think work better......salt powder(like deer cane, comerdeere, and other deer attractant stuff), or saltwater tablets i think work well....gets into the ground, makes a big mineral bed, and eventually the deer and elk will eat the ground trying to get to the salt....I like this the best if using salt...and i typically try to add a mineral enhancer to my salt beds so that it benefits the deer also....like a golds gym for deer in the ground...lol

Good post coasthunterjay I just bought a trace mineral salt block to see if the deer around my area like it. Anybody try a trace mineral salt block before for mule deer and whitetails?
