4 Salmon a Day, and you can snag em.
« on: May 20, 2010, 04:23:36 PM »
Got my email from the good ole wdfw today.

Drano and The Wind have 4 fish a day limits starting Saturday.  At least on Drano, the anti snagging rule has been rescinded.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife

Drano Lake hatchery spring chinook limit rising,
but fishing will close two Wednesdays in June

Action:   Up to four hatchery chinook may be retained.

Species affected:   Chinook

Effective dates:   For daily limit, May 22 through June 30, 2010.  All fishing will close Wednesdays, June 2 and June 9.

Location:   Drano Lake downstream of markers on point of land downstream and across from Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery and upstream of Hwy. 14 Bridge.

Daily limits:   The salmonid daily limit will be four fish.  Up to 2 may be hatchery steelhead.  Release wild chinook and wild steelhead.  Release all trout other than steelhead.  Minimum size 12 inches for salmon and 20 inches for steelhead.

Other information:   Hatchery jack chinook count as part of the salmon daily limit.

Under previously adopted emergency regulations, the bank-fishing only area near the outlet of Drano Lake is in effect through June.  In addition, the anti-snagging rule has been rescinded for this year's spring chinook fishery.

Reason for action:   As of May 19, a total of 3,798 fish had returned to Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery.  Nearly 3,000 of those fish returned within the past few days. The hatchery escapement goal is 1,000 fish.  Surplus hatchery fish are available for harvest.

The two Wednesday closures in June are necessary for the Yakama tribal fisheries scheduled to occur on those dates.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

They lifted the anti-snagging rule on the Wind before the season started.

I think it's weird that they allow snagging. It's kinda like saying, ok, now you can use rifles to hunt turkeys, so you can shoot them at 300 yards.

lifting the "anti-snagging" rule does NOT allow you to snag fish.  it just means that you can use multiple hooks and trebles.

that's like saying that all the rivers that don't have the anti-snagging law in effect are legal to snag in(it's illegal statewide).  it used to be called the non buoyant restriction, but it got its name changed, because the numbskulls that don't bother to look up the definition in the regs thought it was illegal to use lures than didn't float(i had been called out several times on rivers like the skokomish for using spinners).
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Thanks for clarifying that. I always wondered about that when I saw them lift the anti-snagging rule. I wonder how many people go fishing after reading that news release with the intention of snagging fish, and thinking it's perfectly legal?

Now what seems weird to me is that they call it the "anti-snagging" rule. They need to come up with a more appropriate name.
