looking for training birds...help!
« on: May 20, 2010, 08:28:32 PM »
hi, haven't posted here in quite some time.  i'm getting a lab pup next weekend (8wks) and am trying to secure a source for training birds for the summer.  i've thought about getting some quail chicks, but i got enough to worry about trying to raise a dog, nevermind getting into the whole animal husbandry deal.  i'm still thinking about it, though.  also, pigeions come top mind, as i could probably catch some (free!!) and build a coop and keep them and restock as needed.  i really don't have the space or resources to have a breeding group of birds here at the house.  so.... i'm looking for advice.  i live in bothell, just south of everett.

thanks

willy

There is a duck farm in Omak that sells them 10.50 a piece and she delivers. Her name is wendy  westwind@northcascades.net. Nice birds, actually just used some today. Also a pigeon  trap in the city works great.

Jim and Wendy are great folks and at times have a TON of birds. I was there a few years back and I think they had something like 10000 mallards they were raising! :yike: INSANE :yike:! Food by the truck load (big truck). Last I spoke to them they were suppliers for most of the retriever trials in several states. Sometimes they have chukars and pheasants as well.
