Winston 520 is a good idea.  Lots of public land to hunt.  There are a lot of hunters in there on weekends and during the first week of the season.  After that it clears out and you won't see nearly as many people.  Lots of gates in there to hunt behind.  You should not have a problem finding elk in there either.

You don't need to put in for anything, as most everything is open for the general season. About the only exceptions would be Toutle and Margaret. You might consider applying for those along with everybody else.

i will be bow hunting :bash:

I would be interested in this as well.  Since you are bow hunting, I assume you wish to know the places to go during that time.  I cannot be much help there.  I used to hunt rifle for elk in the Crystal Mountain area, but the elk seem scarce up there lately............ :'(

Actually I think Winston is more private than public, but the private is Weyerhaeuser and is open to hunting, although the gates may not be.

Be sure and look at some National forest land units as a plan B. The biggest problem with the st helen's tree farm (Weyerhaeuser land) is the land gets closed due to fire danger about every other year. Some years they allow walk-in with the woods closed but it seems to change every year, some years no access due to fire danger.
